TV viewers will be able to watch missed BBC programmes via the internet under a new service being launched by the corporation.
BBC Director General Mark Thompson announced the "ambitious" plans for "MyBBCPlayer" which will allow computer users to download the previous seven days of programmes.
The service, which will also offer radio programmes, should start next year, subject to the approval of BBC governors.
Viewers will be able to search for programmes they want to watch, filter programmes by channel, and collect and watch episodes of series they might have missed. As well as seven days of viewing, MyBBCPlayer, will also provide live streaming of TV programmes and access to some of the BBC's archive.
