Channel 5, the British commercial broadcaster owned by Viacom, has an unusual plan for boosting the number of people using its online video service - launching a TV channel.

Channel 5 wants to get My5 TV on air as early as next month and a source with knowledge of the launch said it will showcase the best of the broadcaster's video-on-demand service, My5.

Now if they can rebrand the remaining apps such as on NOW TV and Roku boxes and smart tv's as My5 instead of Demand 5 at the same time, it'll make it a lot easier for viewers to understand.

Fire TV has the strange thing of having the app called My5, but then has the Demand 5 UI!

It's kind of laughable that Channel 5 can't maintain consistent branding for their on demand service. On both PlayStation 3 and 4, it's still using the Demand 5 branding!

Hopefully My5 can show some decent programming from the on demand service. The 24 hour timeshift seemed like a waste of bandwidth as far as it was concerned.

The Plus 24 channel was a bit... meh... who wants to watch yesterday's Big Brother at the same time there's a new one out? nah.

Anyway, I like the idea and I like that channel 5 are finally doing a first.

My5 isn't really a popular service. As mentioned, they need to tidy up the branding and remove all mentions of Demand 5.

Personally (not saying I'm right obviously) I would stick on exclusive content onto My5. Such as the new original comedy they are launching. Release all the episodes onto My5 and show them on Channel 5 weekly.

With Smart TV's and such - it's time now for them to smarten up their on demand service or people will find those programmes somewhere else instead of My5.

Why would we?
This My5 is the same sort of idea as 4Seven, so it's not really a new idea, it's simply Channel 5 being late to the party.

And All4 is the on-demand name literally for all Channel 4's on-demand content. That name wouldn't really work as a TV channel.

This My5 TV channel sounds like the '5 Later' planned service. Remember well before C5+24, Freeview epg 55 was labled as 5Later and there was a 5Later logo with coming soon mpeg on screen.

When they got cold feet about the 5Later channel, they clearly came up with +24 as a stop gap for the freeview slot. I'm surprised they did not do a +2 service instead....discovery have had plus 2's in the past (thinking of DMAX +2).

4Seven replaced More4+2 as well.

The 5Later thing was tooted late 2013, it later launched as Channel5+24 which AIUI is not the same on Freeview as it is on the other platforms.

They should work on sorting out their on demand platform as should ITV and Channel 4.

I can't tell you how frustrating it is to try and watch ITV/C4/5 on catch up sometimes compared to BBC iPlayer! I understand they need ads but they need to implement them a whole lot better or I don't mind saying this I'll just find alternative ways of viewing the content and they can lose all their ad revenue in the process!

The DTT opts stopped around January - DTT used to opt out for Teleshopping at certain points during the day while DSAT had more repeats of the Aussie soaps. Since the start of the year those have been dropped and more of the Channel 5 daytime schedule has been shown.

The interesting thing about +24 is that it isn't a delay of the main channel like +1 channels but instead runs as a completely separate channel. In fact, up until very recently it came from a different building to the main Channel 5!
