Why don't music selection channels like The Box, KISS, Smash Hits, Magic, Q & Kerrang! offer an interactive service. This would be much better as Sky Digital & NTL Digital viewers could input a 3 didgit selection number through their digibox and would be much better than using a phone and people are more likely to use the sevice if this method was used. I want to know if anyone knows if there are any plans form this or why there may not have been and ur general opinions on this idea!

They make 75p per call,so they would not use a money loss scheme like that.Even though it would be more useful!

Everything costs money, and I'm sure such a service would cost a hell of a lot - especially if it covers all the Emap channels

Making Sky's music channels interactive is a brilliant idea, this idea immediately popped into my mind when Music Choice launched earlier in the year.

I think MTV could make a good effort, as could The Box. If The Box's motto is Smash Hits You Control then let us have more control on all music channels by making them interactive! Wink

They could charge the same amount through an interactive selection!

The EMAP Channels (bar the box) aren't on NTL yet. They have, however signed a deal and will be avilable in the new year. Im getting my Noose ready for when Kerrang arrives- my sisters a hard Rock Freak:(

Not through cable cos we use a free of charge broadband conenction!
They would probabally still come up with some way of charging though. I liked it when the box had its own verison unique to each cable company cos the calls were free then.

Yeah I've been tormenting my mate about that for ages cos I have 5 more music channels, so I can't do it for much longer, I'll let him know there coming on NTL Digital though, I presume The Box is still broadcasting on NTL Analogue?

Yep, it is. Pre- October 1999 it was a version from Diamond Cable/NTL and it was free to call. Then it was 60p, now 75p a minute. Rip off.

I can remember it being 50p on Analogue Satelite in June 1997 in the graveyard hours of Granada Plus 12-7am!

I've asked this question before but didn't get an answer:
Does anyone have any (insider) knowledge on how the phone calls to these music channels actually influence what they play?
They must make a lot of money - and because their playlists are so short, every tune comes round sooner or later.
So just because you call in, I don't think the song you select gets played any more quickly.
(In fact one night I called twice for the same track and still waited 2 hours to hear it!)
I reckon someone should spill the beans.

Yeah I never ring in, it's a rip off and ur song would get played evetually anyway, I think what happens is each song gets a certain amount of votes and then gets played so even if u just ring in for a song and no-one else does it might not even get played, the interactive service would benefit the viewers greatly but would not do emap any favours, that's why there not anxious to have it I expect!
