A valid point, but UK viewers who first received the channel had that logo - a brand that I grew up with myself. And when it's been in use for over 15 years, it's tricky to see it replaced. I know they often refer to the 'splat' as 'new logo' but the Nick typeface appeared in all sorts of forms, especially the DOGs.
Yes, the white word is the logo and it goes on top of any orange 2D shape. From the link I posted earlier, here's the original logo bible for Nickelodeon:
