Sky Sports recorded an interview with him at Silverstone (off season) in the first year they had live coverage, so I'd imagine they'll hack bits of that, and add extra contributions.

Currently it's pre season testing in Bahrain, and whilst members of the Sky team are hosting for FOM and the world feed, Ted is doing his testing notebook for Sky, so I'd expect a tribute for him tonight or tomorrow.

Right on both counts. Most of last night's notebook was dedicated to Martin and Ted, who both shared the ITV commentary box with Murray from 1997 to 2001, sharing their thoughts and memories. Well worth a watch.

The notebook was then followed immediately on the Sky F1 channel by that 2012 interview.

Black armbands. A nice subtle tribute to one of their own.

Hopefully, a more permanate tribute to Murray is incoming once the season gets going from FOM. Be nice to think they'll name the travelling broadcast centre at the track after him. The Murray Walker FOM Broadcast Centre - as a nice ring to it.

And I hope Silverstone are thinking of renaming a corner after him.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there were plans for something at Silverstone, or something "reserved for future use" or similar. It didn't go into any major detail (and as is usual when I need it I can't find it now!), but it would be very surprising if there is nothing "for" a Walker memorial at Silverstone in some form even if its only a corner or one of the long straights. I think Senna ended up with a few "Senna Chicanes" at a track or two in his memory and the so-called Senna S's at Brazil. Although I suspect Walker would have been happy with a piece of kerb in a rumble strip somewhere being named after him, nothing that would take the attention away from the action.

I remember there was an ITV-produced documentary on Murray's life around 1997 or 1998. Can't find any trace of it online though.

Murray along with Ted Lowe are two of the main voices I grew up with on telly, two polar opposites!

There was the one in 2002 I've on VHS somewhere - Fantastic Anglia produced one that followed Murray in his last season on F1 ITV.

"The Unmissable Murray Walker" - I remember watching it as a child. I see it's recently been posted to YouTube if anyone fancies a watch.

I suspect this has been the one of the main sources of footage of Murray in his later ITV years.

It’s been announced tonight that the BBC will be showing the Murray Walker Life in the Fast Lane documentary on Tuesday. Will be interesting to see which edit they use - I suspect they might use the original 2011 programme, for the reason that I set out above (the 2011 edit being a more general celebration of Murray’s life and career, whereas the 2018 edit ends with cheery 95th birthday wishes to him from a number of the interviewees).

It's already available on iPlayer and looks like it probably has extra bits added as it ends with a 2021 copyright date. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bny5bm/murray-walker-a-life-in-the-fast-lane

Yes, looks like the 2018 edit, with the birthday wishes removed and a memorial slate after the credits.

Yeah the one I'm thinking of was a few years older than Unmissable. It was where that often-shown footage of Murray and Martin in the booth for Jerez 1997 qualifying originated from.

Missing the O.B.E after his name as well.
It may have been edited in a rush, but no excuse to miss that off the caption - even more so, as the man himself shows his OBE medal in the programme, is really proud of receiving it.

OBEs and the like don't apply once a person has died.

Believe if you get knighted and become a Sir, you retain it in name when you go. Obvious example here is Jimmy Savile, which is still technically a sir, as it was never rescinded before he died so (controversially or otherwise) it remains for him. This comes up quite regularly on his Wiki talk page.

A Cabinet Office spokesman said years ago not long after Savile died that there was no procedure to posthumously revoke an OBE or knighthood, as they expire when you go. Although a lot of his other entities who bestowed honours on him for various things over the years suddenly found get-out clauses and the like to revoke a chunk of them that they were adamant didn't exist before. But that's another discussion.
