Let's not forget is career outside of motorsport commentary. He was an accomplished advertising copywriter, and Trill and Mars would not have had a memorable advertising slogans without Mr Walker OBE.

He denied having a hand in the Mars one ("A Mars a day...") but according to his Wikipedia page he did come up with "Opal Fruits, made to make your mouth water."

I was going to put this in the YouTube thread but might be better here:

Murray Walker commentating on a Scalextric race on the set of Pointless back in 2015:

Was watching one of the obituaries on the BBC News website and they used a clip from this; Walker said he loved the show, watched it most days and was delighted to be invited to appear on it.

The BBC had a great show about his life broadcast about 5 years ago or so - it would work well as a tribute again untouched, or slightly re-edited.

Legend is an overused word but in this case he was. He was the voice of F1 and as good as people like Ben Edwards, James Allen etc that have followed have been there will only be one Murray Walker.

Oh no. This is very sad news. The 90's had me hooked to F1 with Murray Walker's voice when I was a kid. His voice has great power & authority when the cars went out on the track. When the races were on the telly back then; his voice had me in excitement when he was behind the microphone. And I never forget his mannerisms when he interviewed the drivers either before & after the race. He will be regarded by many others that he was a gentleman on screen & a gentleman off it. What an absolute legend. RIP Murray Walker. Sad

Here’s the BBC documentary about Murray’s life. It first aired in 2011.

Yes, I was watching my recording of this last night. It actually received a re-edit in 2018 to mark his 95th birthday, and this version combines footage filmed for the 2011 documentary, and various talking heads with some new footage, filmed with Murray at his home, and newer talking head interviews. It's interesting to spot what was recorded when, and I suspect that some of the interviews came from even further back.

Hopefully they can show it again in due course as a tribute, although it will need to be re-edited again, I would suggest, as the 2018 version ends with the various interviewees wishing Murray a happy 95th birthday, and I suspect showing this would be considered inappropriate in the circumstances.

Well, Mr Walker is now trending on Twitter.

Not entirely sure why Coulthard is responding through C4F1, I know he's president of the BRDC who released the original tweet, thought he'd have had an account of his own?

And for now, BBC Archive and the infamous time Walker tried to pull out all the stops not to stall the car and then went and did it anyway:

Coulthard is the co-founder and co-owner of the production company?

It’s been announced tonight that the BBC will be showing the Murray Walker Life in the Fast Lane documentary on Tuesday. Will be interesting to see which edit they use - I suspect they might use the original 2011 programme, for the reason that I set out above (the 2011 edit being a more general celebration of Murray’s life and career, whereas the 2018 edit ends with cheery 95th birthday wishes to him from a number of the interviewees).

Quite surprised it wasn't Sir Murray Walker to be honest.

I remember there was an ITV-produced documentary on Murray's life around 1997 or 1998. Can't find any trace of it online though.

Murray along with Ted Lowe are two of the main voices I grew up with on telly, two polar opposites!
