I was quite surprised to see some French channels stored recently when I scanned the work Freeview TV. TF1, arte, Eurosport all perfect signal.

I've heard stories of analogue channels making it across the sea (once, I managed to get a very fuzzy signal of a Danish channel showing Friends on analogue), but never DVB-T channels.

Some new receivers will allow the owner to scan specific single RF channels only, so in six operations one specific transmitter's services can be accessed only.

I can already do that with a manual scan on my old Freeview TV (I presumed most Freeview receivers had that feature), but it's not an option available on first-time setup.

I live quite near to Alexandra Palace, which since DSO offers a Freeview Lite service. However it's not intended for this area - my strongest signal is still Crystal Palace - yet whenever I do a retune, I pick up the AP muxes with the CP ones going into the 800s. And then you don't know what's happened until it's stormy or something and the signal starts weakening. So whenever there's a retune now I have to delete the channel list and tune the 6 muxes in manually. Coupled with losing all your recording list whenever you do it, it has become a bit tiresome! Good job I understand it, heaven knows what "normal" people do...

Yep - not unusual on the south coast. The old SECAM L stuff was very strong (but you needed a multi-standard set to receive them). Now that we use pretty much the same standards for DVB-T stuff there's no such barrier to receiving them.

German and Dutch DVB-T transmissions are regularly received by DX enthusiasts, particularly in East Anglia.

One Dutch mux is a nationwide SFN, using UHF Ch 39, that often appeared, though it's now swamped out since Tacolneston (Norfolk area Tx) moved one of its muxes to Ch 39 as part of the 4G clearance.

The best I ever managed in the analogue days, was an almost noise free SVT from Sweden (don't know which Tx) in Hampshire

We used to get BRT (I think) from Belgium on the south coast quite cleanly (though no sound as we didn't have a PAL-G compatible telly)
