He only ever presented for the first year of L&K, AIUI at the time he was doing alot of Theatre.
Actually it was because he was sh!t. Seriously, he was awful so they moved him away from the live presenting and stuck him on Electric Circus. Barrowman talked about this in an interview with SFX recently I think.

Not to spoil that TV magic but Lenny Henry happened to be filming his new show in another studio at TVC that night, so his appearance probably has as much to do with happenstance!

TBH I was never really keen on him on L&K, it was better when he left so it allowed Andi and Emma the full chemistry.
I still love (and remember from the time) that clip of Andi and Emma's last L&K where Andi goes into the time machine and comes out wearing a grey wig, where as Emma goes in and her mum comes out of it.
