I agree that the channels do need slimmed down but why was the need for so many? For me especially at MTV it was that the playlists at first I would say we're diverse but these days the playlists seem to be that tight, they just air the same tracks over again (it was only on occasions I believe it was the weekends ie Club MTV they would play more 90s music)

I guess 10-20 years ago, having multiple channels helped bulk up MTV's overall share of viewing and provide more available advertising minutes.

I'm guessing that as advertising has dwindled so much they still resort to keeping teleshopping on air.... Still to think maybe few or more so years ago MTV was airing teleshopping for 4 hours per channel (VIVA was maybe 6 or 8?) but to me that was the beginning and a warning sign (I get channels can choose to show it or not but looks very last resort), as pretty much channels like MTV/VH1 we're 24 hours, surprised why they haven't closed at 4am to resume at 6am or as MTV OMG its 6am to 9am?

So will the Spice Girls - Goodbye be the last song played on MTV OMG, with a dance remix of it played on ClubMTV and a rock remix of it on MTV Rocks? Seems to be a tradition now to use that song, or Viva Forever.

Maybe the last song on MTV Rocks will be The Final Countdown by Europe, and the last song on Club MTV will be Save The Last Dance For Me.

Even for MTV Rocks its pretty pathetic really....

I wonder if they'll expand the list as it goes or again will it be similar to the other channels stick to what they know....
Let me guess it won't be "pure dance" when the channel launched it'll be more pop on the blow out....

In regards to the changes and the highlights of charts on the other stations how long will they last?

At least they're acknowledging they're going off air rather than just suddenly ending as often seems to be the case.

MTV Rocks -- U2 Beautiful Day? Club MTV - U2 Better Than The Real Thing (Perfecto Mix).... just suggested that for a laugh but even highlighting these 2 songs its rare you see them played on those stations let alone where they suggesting people to go...

Now confirmed on the Sky EPG that MTV Music+1 and Comedy Central Extra+1 will be closing next Tuesday at 7am.

MTV+1 is currently still showing listings after this though.

Is this the beginning of +1 channels going too? I'm guessing Sky carries more +1's than Virgin does...

The closure of the +1 channels will save a bit of transponder space, transponders that are leased from SES (Astra) which costs money. The removal of HD channels that's been happening lately also save space.

Sky in Germany has been doing a similar thing: https://rethinkresearch.biz/articles/sky-deutschland-signs-dth-death-sentence-with-channel-cull/

Sky is focusing on-demand content more and more as OTT doesn't have the usual transmission cost overheads, this includes streaming linear channels. They're gradually moving towards where Sky without a dish will probably be the only option.

On a quick count, Sky has around 70 +1 timeshift channels, Virgin has around 45.
