Paramount+1 is closing down tomorrow on satellite.

It has listings on Sky's EPG for the next 7 days. The other ViacomCBS channels that are closing have the appropriate message.

I haven't heard about Paramont+1 closing but either way don't read too much in to the +1 listings. MTV+1, MTV Music+1 and CC Extra+1 still have listings from next Monday but they are going.

A Sky employee has posted that it is closing tomorrow on their forum so it is reliable information.

So they've pretty much confirmed the closure of these channels?

Maybe asking an odd question but can channels just disappear without notice these days to providers ie Sky/Virgin?

But of course. Channels pay Sky to appear on the EPG, so stop paying and off you'll come.
In certain circumstances the decision to stop broadcasting is beyond the control of the broadcaster, such as if the provider goes bump, as happened when Sit-up went bust.

There are really two types of channel though. There are those, largely free to air, that are just paying to be on the EPG, and have no connexion apart from that with Sky. A very few of those may also have to pay to be scrambled, usually down to having limited rights to content. Then there are those that are paid by Sky to appear as part of a Sky package. For that they will have a contractual relationship with Sky, and will need to comply with that. Viacom is one of those, so one assumes that they will be complying with their contractual requirements with Sky. This is also why sometimes channels close on Sky but remain on Virgin for a month or two - channels waiting for any contractual relationship with Virgin to expire.

At a guess similar to MTV Live which is still available to Virgin but not on Sky anymore, I am surprised its still on air with Virgin as I would have thought it be gone by now, if it was a channel to keep I would have said keep MTV Live (had it been back on Sky as well as Virgin) then got rid of Music/Hits...

Just seems these days to an extent the announcements seem to be out the blue then channels just go... but I understand what you say Smile

MTV OMG seemed to very rarely actually be MTV OMG anyway, it's always turning into various pop-up channels. It was MTV00s throught May, then MTV Pride through June, for example.

MTV OMG was indeed initially meant to be their pop up channel, not a stable all year long channel

But then they started using MTV Classic (which now gets very good ratings compared to the rest) and MTV Rocks for them, it got quite confusing, especially since MTV OMG most of the time was similar to MTV Hits and MTV Music

Now probably (?) MTV Base will be used as a pop up channel? Given it's the lowest rated channel they have

I didn't realise MTV OMG was meant to be a pop up channel, the way it went in regards of VIVA it was advertised as a brand new channel in terms of things but I am guessing too that was the whole point of pulling off from Freeview as MTV branded channels weren't allowed on??

You mention MTV Base they could just merge that with Club MTV as weren't these 2 channels connected Sky Digital days before MTV Dance became a single channel?

Going back on MTV Rocks the only good thing about it is at least there shouldn't be anymore VH1 Christmas either! So even that it seems they don't want anything more with the VH1 brand (strange)/

Would they not be better getting rid of either MTV Hits or MTV Music or at least rebrand one of them to something else as they are basically the same playing recent chart hits?

I'm guessing they haven't thought that one out or on the other they believe that playing the same stuff on both the viewers wouldn't tell much of a difference anyway!

I'm guessing it's based on viewing figures.

The fact that half (4 out of 8 ) of their music channels are based on recent chart music shows that's where the majority of the viewers are, and that will still be the case after the closures (2 out of 4 channels).

The fact that MTV still has 8 music channels, more than any other broadcaster, together with declining viewing figures, doesn't make this announcement much of a surprise really.

My money is on Trace Urban as the next channel to either close, or rebrand as a chart music channel. Its ratings have improved recently, but only because of the addition of chart music in the morning
