There was someone who had "insider" knowledge that all the Box Plus channel were going to be rebranded under the 4 name, however that wasn't true.

While the amount of entertainment programming has increased a lot over the last few years, in particular with the axing of Trending Live, remember that 4Music has pretty much always had non-music shows.

I always used to say that 4Music still had a reason to keep it's name as they still do broadcast music content, even though it's only on weekday mornings and weekends up until around 4/5pm. Another reason was that 4Music is specifically managed by a music network, so all its original programming is music based, which I can't see being removed from the channel. But given the ratio of music to entertainment, I can accept a name change more than I did before.

If a name change did happen Channel 4 would most likely want to keep the 4 name, but I have occasionally wondered if a name more in-keeping with its Box Plus sister channels could work, such as Box Shows. Might sound a little too much like how MTV went, but I could be a possibility.

I mean, MTV could go niche and launch a K-Pop channel for all I know

You may give them an idea.... for a pop up channel next.... prepares for a temp rebrand shortly...

Probably Channel 4 will join the club soon.. for me at least they should/could rebrand 4Music into something like 4Comedy and then moving the 4Music brand to the newly owned channels..

But let's not forget that the MTV music channels are even more niche than the C4 music channels, being behind paywall

Way off topic but they've never even bothered to update the 4Music logo on the interactive service on Freeview (which links to three more channels). Think it's two years in September since the logo changed.

I guess though both with MTV and 4Music if they ever did rebrand their main channel to be programming only and launched a spin-off music only channel it would only be a matter of time before programming crept on to their new music channel too.

Wasn't that the whole purpose of the whole TMF/VIVA/MTV OMG channel? TMF launched as a music channel, programmes crept in then rebrand it as it stood for "entertainment" then music crept back in then another rebrand .... and here we are MTV OMG with music once more?

MTV OMG seemed to very rarely actually be MTV OMG anyway, it's always turning into various pop-up channels. It was MTV00s throught May, then MTV Pride through June, for example.

Yet thats another kick in the teeth for the channels use if its to get rid of it ... the pop up channels I wonder where they will go next ... MTV Classic?, for me also as well in particular that MTV OMG/Club MTV they had a revamp (better graphics on screen to the others) to then axe them seems rather odd, saying that I wonder if another revamp will follow?

I do wonder if we are to look back (MTV OMG in particular), i'm guessing the channel hasn't been a success as they had hoped? As its had 2 rebrands since its first launch (ie TMF)?

Thought: MTV2 makes a comeback on MTV Music? Shocked

If there is a need for CMT to be reintroduced in the UK market (an European version was available in the mid 90's), they could test the waters and add it to Pluto TV.

CMT is not likely to return to the UK but has just been launched in Australia along with several other MTV channels and NickMusic.

CMT Australia is 100% music, unlike the American channel which has moved towards films and classic sitcoms.

Total Country's recently closed down, so there's unlikely to be a market for CMT. Not that the US CMT seems to show much other than repeats of Roseanne.

Maybe asking an odd question but can channels just disappear without notice these days to providers ie Sky/Virgin?

Wasn't the announcement of VH1 closing sudden if I remember? I only remember hearing about it closing a week or 2 before it went? If and only its an if ... does seem shorter notice for them to go?

But of course. Channels pay Sky to appear on the EPG, so stop paying and off you'll come.
In certain circumstances the decision to stop broadcasting is beyond the control of the broadcaster, such as if the provider goes bump, as happened when Sit-up went bust.

General idea of charges are here (this is from 2014):

MTV OMG was indeed initially meant to be their pop up channel, not a stable all year long channel

But then they started using MTV Classic (which now gets very good ratings compared to the rest) and MTV Rocks for them, it got quite confusing, especially since MTV OMG most of the time was similar to MTV Hits and MTV Music

Now probably (?) MTV Base will be used as a pop up channel? Given it's the lowest rated channel they have

Would they not be better getting rid of either MTV Hits or MTV Music or at least rebrand one of them to something else as they are basically the same playing recent chart hits?
