Not entirely related to Channel 5 but ViacomCBS in general, but ViacomCBS is shutting down apparently 6 channels:

- MTV OMG
- MTV Rocks
- Club MTV
- MTV Music +1
- MTV +1
- Comedy Central Extra +1

The only one of any note to me is MTV+1. The rest seem pretty niche but one would think +1 channels are a cheap and easy way to get more ad revenue?

According to Digiguide it could be 19th July at 11pm for MTV OMG and 20th July at 4am for MTV Rocks and Club MTV. Virgin is also saying the same thing, except it says "To Be Announced", there's listings for the other MTV music channels on that date and afterwards.

+1 channels are a cheap and quick way to get revenue, but in the days of VOD and PVRs, their role is becoming more diminished.

if true - to think MTV OMG/Club MTV have recently had a makeover couple years ago, MTV Rocks (this even though its not my genre) I would also be surprised if it goes as to think of at least its heyday it was MTV2, surprised why not just get rid of MTV Music in general? It has to be one of the oddest named channel for MTV.

previous forms: MTV OMG: VIVA/TMF Club MTV: MTV Dance...

To think it wasn't that long ago VH1 was dumped, so the slow cull of their other MTV channels is a start, may as well just go back to analogue days of MTV (wonder if with the closures that MTV itself will play music in the day and craparama at night?)

Dump the lifestyle stuff somewhere else (“MTV Life”?) and make the first letter in “MTV” mean anything.

I reckon they'll bring NickMusic to the UK market, cos it's time the kids had their own channel

Anyways, are you sure they confirmed this yet?

MTV Music might look like a strange name, but one has to realize MTV doesn't.mean Music Television anymore, hence why the Music Television tag has been removed
It's still a lot better than MTV Shows..

As for MTV playing again music.. don't make me laugh

Still, there's probably too overlap with MTV Hits

Hopefully MTV Music will be now more used as a new home for Rocks and Club genres.. maybe

ViacomCBS has a history of rebranding channels in a bizarre way or rather useless way, especially when it comes to Club MTV, but I also think of things likes NIcktoonsters..

Considering the amount of channels with a music focus that carry the name, I wonder what else it could possibly mean.
