MTV to rebrand as MTV One

Broadcast are reporting MTV will become MTV One on July 22nd ahead of the the launch of Viacom's "general entertainment channel" 'MTV R' in the Autumn. All other MTV channels will also have a makeover. Each channel will have a South Park-like personality assigned to it which will characterize each channel.

It sounds like a waste of money, if you ask me, altough it will give us something to talk about.
Didn't channels like MTV Hits and Base not just have a makeover anyway?

What's that supposed to mean? One fat and obnoxious channel, one Jewish one, one who keeps getting killed...?

Whilst I think it is a waste, I like the idea . As long as they don't lose that precious logo. I do hate how music companies like MTV and VH1 decide to make their rock channels as MTV2 or VH2, even though VH2 is now gone. Why can't it just be MTV Rock?

Whilst i'm on the subject, I really do think there are too many channels on Music packages that are dedicated to Rock and R'n'B.

So, presumably they mean in terms of the style of animation and the characters having unruly personalities, rather than being the exact actual South Park regular characters.
