It's been downhill ever since they got rid of Mister Furry.

Actually, it's been downhill ever since 1996, when Ray Cokes left due to the infamous Hamburg incident.

We are still relevant. Really.

Oh my goodness, this is equal parts tragic and hilarious. The new Exhibit A in television catastrophically misunderstanding/disregarding the integral organic nature of online creativity.

Horrible, fittingly horrible.

Well, sure. I'm sure we all have our "when I stopped watching MTV" moment. But for me the package that that particular ident is from was the last time MTV looked good on screen.

What will happen to the MTV Music channels? Will they be getting a rebrand too?

NB. I can't remember the last time I heard "I want my MTV" anywhere.

I don't recall anybody in the UK using it. I always presumed it was mainly an American thing... except for that Dire Straits song, of course. By the time we got MTV around 1997, that original MTV feel was long gone.

Wasn't it part of a campaign in the US to encourage viewers to ring their cable company to ask them to carry it? I don't think MTV ever had a similar problem in Europe. Though "Money for Nothing" was indeed the first video played on MTV Europe.
