As the title of this thread states, MTV will be 25 years old this Tuesday. Amongst the Top 25's of this and that, one particular thing that might interest you is that on the final hour of the day at 11pm, MTV will be rebroadcasting their first ever hour.

So it will be nice to see all those lovely 80s graphics etc and see how the American music video channel was about to take on the world.

Music? MTV? Whenever I put MTV on these days, they are showing some American ****.

I wouldnt class the MTV Channel a music channel. For the other MTV channels i would class them as music channels. The original one shows utter junk.

Even the MTV spinoff channels have declined in quality over the last few years. Part of the problem is that there's too many music channels. Both MTV & EMAP need a cull.

Highlights for the day are:-

The Top 100 Videos That Broke The Rules

MTV's Top 25 Moments

I've got a funny feeling it will just be from the American angle rather than any of the European stuff when MTV Europe kicked off 19 years ago.

Do they still do new Unplugged(s) these days?

Well they played an old ident a while ago which was set on a moon-like setting, and something being hit with a spoon, flying into pieces, and then forming the MTV logo.

Is it the 25th anniversary of the UK one though? When did the UK channel start?

Not sure on the exact date but the year was 1987. I'm going to guess it was 1st August too. I remember there was 15th year anniversary programme in the summer of 2002 with a nice bit on VJ Ray Cokes.

MTV UK didn't launch until 1997.
