Suspect a lot of videos have been supplied letterboxed in 4:3 rather than 16:9. Either MTV will have to re-ingest through an ARC (and accept the softer looking picture) or they'll pillarbox I guess.
AIUI significant numbers of promos are still delivered 4:3 SD, and certainly lots of the other 16:9 channels look to have soft "zoomed" videos a lot of the time.

MTV and MTV+1 are currently showing programmes in both letterbox and pillarbox mode at the same time (the music channels are still just letterbox mode).
The logos have increased in size on the music channels, but haven't changed much on MTV or MTV+1
They've massively increased the size of the logos, but thankfully all the other on-screen guff seems to be slightly less in-your-face.

Any reason why MTVN HD has remained the same? Surely it would've changed by now if it was going to.

It has in Europe, but what we get in the UK is a different version, it looks like for the time being they are keeping it as MTVNHD in the UK.
I always thought we got the same channel.

No its different, presumably to cater for a UK audience, the rest of Europe has its own version.

Happy Birthday today to MTV! 30 years old.
Well, if you want to be pedantic, it's actually 24 years old today - well, the European version is anyway. First song on the US version 30 years ago was Video Killed The Radio Star by Buggles, the European version opted for Money For Nothing by Dire Straits.
Sadly, these days MTV is a shadow of its former self (oh for the great days of MTV Europe again!) I'm not even sure the anniversary is being acknowledged by them today, but 50 points to anyone who spots a playing of either of the above mentioned songs on any of the MTV channels today (probably most likely on Classic).

How exciting it must have been back then.
I remember MTV UK marked the 20th in 2001 too, with a montage of various idents.
The best MTV idents now are MTVN HD's. The main channel has totally lost its way, and I think is probably doing the wrong thing chasing the generation who are no longer interested in TV; they should have let the brand age with its core market (sort of like Radio Caroline has).
Well the UK version celebrated the US 25th anniversary, no promos for the 30th though.
Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll...
