It has been reported on the Points Of View messageboard that certain music channels (those owned by MTV) are censoring The Pogues "Fairytale Of New York". The offending line - not "Merry Christmas your @rse" as you might expect but "You cheap lousy faggot".
As if censoring archive episodes of Only Fools...wasn't enough. How much more of this insane political correctness can we tolerate?
That is pathetic! The word 'faggot' in the context of the song is hardly being used in the homophobic sense. So 'arse' is ok but 'faggot' isn't, eh?
On a related note, Five cut out the phrase 'He's a t
osser' from Friday's Home and Away, but the expression 'pis
sed my pants' was left intact a few months ago. I just don't get the logic, sometimes!

And the PC brigade strikes again... absolute madness; I can only hope this is not the case in '06, but I guess this censorship won't disappear overnight .
Why they're doing it I have no clue, but there is absolutely, no need for it whatsoever.
Still, on the upside there was no censoring of the line when I saw it earlier on TOTP2.
I think it is silly that MTV censors this word on their copy, shown on all channels, at all times of the day too on all channels, it's odd considering they get away with árse and slút in the track too.
Also they showed the TOTP performance of the song from 1987 on TOTP2 last night, and the only thing they censored was árse, which was changed to ass.
It always makes me laugh when things like this happen, as gay people are the least politically correct people in the world. Most of us make good use of the derogatory terms with each other. It only seems to be the straight "PC Brigade" who care.
I am surprised that anyone would be sad enough to ring up on Christmas day and complain about the usage of "faggot" and "arse" in the song, considering the jovial context it is being used in.
