There's the films that are on DVD as "Mrs Brown's Boys: The Original Series"- anyone know who these were made for, were they possibly made for RTE?

I don't see any mention of RTE in the credits (there's an episode or two on YouTube). It looks - not to put it down or anything - like something you'd imagine second year film students might produce. Fairly slick, but all on location in people's living rooms and without much, if any, additional lighting, sound off the camera mic etc.

I think they were made for DVD to flog during the interval at the live shows (Produced by Brendan O'Carroll Productions).

I still find it a bit boggling that the character (sort of) was played by Anjelica Huston in a film in 1999:

Amazing how far back the character goes and the different adaptations. Started on the radio in 1992, then turned into a book series, a film in 1999, stage shows and DVDs in 2000s, a TV sitcom in 2011 and another film based on the sitcom in 2014.

It's hard to think of the character in any other form than its current incarnation. The pre-BBC DVDs are fairly painful to watch and goes to show just how much crucial the live, theatrical feel is to the whole Mrs Brown formula. I found the 2014 movie tolerable but I cringed at the idea of Brendan developing an animated series.

I find it jarring that the live shows don't use the sets of the TV series (a rights issue possibly?)

I don't think the TV series set can be taken apart and put back together as quickly/simply as the stage sets. The stage sets are a lot simpler, and go to all sorts of venues, whereas the TV series set stays in a purpose built studio.

Brendan said recently that he felt the tv series was a advertisement for the stage show. The stage shows sell out at every venue, so on the basis of continuity of sets, it's not a major issue for him.

I doubt people watching the stage shows care either.

When Bottom went on live tours, the set was the same as the one seen in the TV series. Was it the actual set of Richie and Eddie's dingy flat from the studio, or a replica set built for use in theatres?

I should clarify - I didn't mean use the actual TV set, but something that resembled it at least. It would be fairly easy to have some flats that resembled the set. The whole layout is completely different.

Worth noting that when Brendan comes on to do the warm-up at Pacific Quay, they use a different version of the MBB theme tune with another singer.

Most of the shows ditched the flat set. I think it only featured in the first Bottom Live AFAICR

Quite rare for the star of the show to do the audience warm up these days isn't it?
