Radio 1 might be worth a listen at the moment, Moyles is discussing regional news and is threatening to get his mate Andi Peters on to explain the reasons behind "Goodbye Northern Ireland"
Is the age demographics for the Chris Moyles show wider than the rest of the Radio 1 output?
Moyles himself is wider than the rest of the Radio 1 output!
True, they gave him a bit of stick about his rotundal frame on the Friday Night Project.
I would say Moyles appeals to a wider audience than most DJ's on Radio 1, I myself have been listening to him since 1997 when he was Capital FM, if 25-30 year olds were listening to him back them there's a good chance that some of them still are now
Moyles has always been a geek. He used to use old Radio 1 jingles and the Thames theme for different purposes.
The brilliant thing is he's a geek who manages to keep a mainstream audience on board when he's talking about stuff like this.
Apparently the reason NI disappeared early was, unless I picked it up wrong, that the member of staff only worked for a certain number of hours.
Full thing is on listen again from around half seven anyway if anyone wants it - from about 7.25am he has a go at various regional news programmes... (of special interest to those in the north of England)

I can only assume that this is someone's attempt at humour?!
BBC Northern Ireland had their regional news programme at 5.35pm in those days. They left CBBC early because Network had a tendency to go well beyond the supposed 5.35pm 'Neighbours' start time, filling with trails and/or inane waffle from the 'broom cupboard'. BBC NI were obviously keen not to waste the twenty-five minute slot that they had available to them.
I had presumed it to be a joke, but just listened again and this is the explanation given by Andi Peters.
I still don't understand why BBC NI went for their local news at 5.35pm (or presumably 5.30pm, if they left five minutes early) versus every other show in the UK.
Up to them I suppose - Scottish Television shifted their regional news to 6.30pm to go head to head with Reporting Scotland for a time, when everyone else was on air at 6pm. Different regions do different things. Just always struck me as odd.
Apparantly BBC1 NI used to tape Neighbours off the air according to Andi Peters, meaning he needed to introduce it on network and stop talking before the music starts
Interesting that Chris likes to watch Look North with Christa and Harry but occasionally watches Look North with Peter Levy sometimes (why?!). It was also pointed out how 'Paul the weatherman' does both
Aled watches Wales Today also. Chris was also jealous of those people in Leeds who can pick up Yorkshire and Tyne Tees
He also asked why the regions all don't have a set same as London and how some regions have dodgy sets. He must never have watched a few years ago!
I think it was the switching around of regional news and Neighbours that led to the staffing issue, whether it meant that the VT area or pres suite didn't need to be staffed for as long or something.

From what I can remember of my hazy memory, Neighbours use to start at 5.36 and occasionly would go straight from the broom cupboard to the BBC1 globe with no trailers.
I stayed in N.Ireland back in 1988 and saw being cut off from the network feed abruptly and watching a episode of Neighbours at 6.30pm featuring Scott saving Charlene from an exploding caravan!
Before he started talking about regional news, he first slammed the way the weather is done on the 6, with the screens made of squares, he said they were very cheap and they should just use a blue screen as normal

Because Chris is actually an acquaintance of Peter levy from the time they both worked in Radio Stations around Leeds in early 90s - Levy is mentioned in Moyles' autobiography.

he actually commented on how different regions have sets of varying degrees of crapness - some with nice big desks - some with daft little sofas/settees. He suggested a more uniform look with London/nationals meaning a big video wall in the regions - rather than the smaller 'screens' in regional outputs which generally show a webcam of the relevant city.
