I wonder what channel the Paramount Network original shows like Waco and Yellowstone will air on in the UK. Spike in the US was rebranded as Paramount Network to focus more as a general entertainment channel, 5Spike probably?

No. 5Spike and the Paramount Channel will exist concurrently, as laid out in the original plans for the 2018 launch.

There's no way Channel 5 will throw away one of their relatively successful offshoots in favour of another channel, especially with the commitment made to keep both running concurrently.

Are they still going ahead with Paramount Channel in the UK? There has been nothing more about since it was announced. And didn't they say it would be free to air, but now they have launched 5Select?

Sony Movie Channel has a surprisingly good Sci-Fi Season at the moment, with some pretty decent films.

Deja Vu, Surrogates, Starship Troopers, The Machine, Godzilla, Signs, After Earth, Total Recall, Judge Dredd, Universal Soldier, Ghosts of Mars, 2012 and others. Not all brilliant films but as a collection very respectable for a channel on Freeview.

Chart Show TV has just left Freesat with no warning, but is still available on Sky.

There is now only 1 CSC channel left on Freesat (The Vault), out of a total of only 4 remaining music channels. Keep It Country is on 516 on Freesat, which shows how many music channels freesat used to have.

CSC used to have 6 channels on Freesat, and still have all 5 remaining channels on Sky.

Vintage TV also left freesat a few weeks ago, citing increased carriage fees as the reason. Maybe this is the reason for Chart Show TV leaving as well, together with the other CSC channels leaving in the past, but seems a bit odd for them to remove their flagship channel, or maybe it isn't anymore. Maybe the Vault gets higher viewing figures these days, with the various non-music shows it is increasingly showing.

Freesat need to really think again on their fee structure, it is clearly harming the platform.

It's a shame generic FTA boxes aren't widely available here like they are in most of Europe. Would make it less of an issue for channels to tie to a platform.

Yes - though without a generic EIT EPG they'd be pretty useless - you'd be stuck with timer recording or an online solution. Selling a non-Freest box with a Freesat EPG would be legally dubious as the Huffman tables used for the proprietary compression are protected by copyright I believe. (Ditto Freeview HD)

I think, for many consumers, the benefits of the Freesat platform (decent PVR and metadata support, proper interactive and iPlayer etc.) outweigh the slight reduction in channel provision due to 'cost of entry'.

I think most countries - where FTA is far less popular for mainstream services - look at Freesat with envy. (Even in Germany the commercial 'terrestrial' HD services are behind a paywall on satellite - and in Scandinavia you are tied into a Sky-like STB to get SD FTV services. France and Italy similarly have restrictions based on FTV not FTA broadcasts)

Why would Sony not add more TV shows to The Vault. Surely if it moved to the Entertainment section on Sky it would give it more exposure and better ratings?
