More4 to be on Freeview

As previously reported, the pair had submitted the highest monetary bids but Crown Castle - the transmission company selling off the slot - is also taking a number of other factors into consideration, such as likely channel content.

ITV's £5m proposal is said to be a "revamped version" of Men & Motors while C4 is exploring a number of options, including a gaming channel.

Crown Castle has asked for clarification on a number of points in both bids. The other broadcasters, meanwhile - Five, Turner Broadcasting, Disney, Top-Up TV and NBC Universal - have not been asked for more detail. Only one applicant has thusfar been rejected outright: Sit Up, which had proposed a free-to-air movie channel.

The contract for the channel, which goes live on April 1, could be awarded as soon as next week.


So its ITV4 or more4, it seems! Confused:

I thought More4 was coming regardless of this free slot anyway.

I don't think Freeview needs a gaming channel to go with the glut of shopping channels.

Hopefully More4 won't get it as many Freeview viewer's can't get Mux C & D (We've got two aerials - and on one we only get Mux 1/2/A/B).

I've said this on Digital Spy but with the engineering work on Mux 2 due for completion well before the launch of More 4 in October, C4 do have the space for C4, E4/Top Up TV, More4 and another channel - possibly FilmFour via Top Up TV (additional subscription!). I expect the gaming channel will use the down time of either More4 or FilmFour.

The same issue of coverage also affects ITV4 - though this would be missed much less, and ABC1.

I think I'd rather see a "newcomer" to the platform - probably the Turner bid - although it be nice to see the much delayed FTA sports channel (from CBM I think!) make an appearance!

the 64QAM muxes are already becomming overcompressed back to ITV Digital levels. I can barely recieve the things in my household so I iwsh ofcom had made them change over to 16.

Although I'd like newcomers I'd also like to see a solid platform on which the basic channels of british broadcasting can live. Not just a watered down Sky (which is one of the many reasons why I'm against TUTV)

I don't think the Advertising Standards Authority have much power over this website. Unless you are refering to our sadministrator in which case title case will suffice.

I thought More4 is launching in October regardless if c4 wins the crown castle slot as they already have the space for 2 extra channels on MUX 2. Are you talking about the CC slot? if so can you post a link,
