It's struck me this morning, that with today's impending re-branding of More4, we'll be losing a set of idents unique in that they are formed solely of the channel's logo.
All other channels are now using live action or other computer-generated imagery, but More4's graphics over the past years have only ever been the green stripes of the logo.
I'm sure there must be other channels, but none that I can think of in the mainstream.
Errrrrrrm, wow... Pick TV...? E4 kind of but not really, they're more about the stuff going on around the logo...
The closest I can think of would be STV if we can include a smidgen of live action. Actually, I think the new look could be something resembling STV's given the "digital scrapbook" idea (or perhaps I'm reading too much into that). It is C4, so who really knows.
That is pretty awful - the logo looks even worse on screen than it did in the initial press release and the idents aren't good enough to justify it - you can barely see the "MORE" too. They should have used "Daddy4" as an example and worked with the logo they had rather than ditch it for something new. Idents wise at least it's one of the worst looks I've seen from any C4 station - and frankly is so bland it has Jay Hunt stamped all over it. Let's hope she doesn't get her mits on the 4 itself!
Predictable response from Brekkie there. But there is a problem, the logo doesn't work very well on screen, for on screen branding you would have thought they would have checked this first.
The animation is superb, slick, fresh (reminiscent of the C4 '99-04 package in tone) and all the other cliches but there's one nagging flaw: the logo. Grey text + SD (544x576) broadcast ÷ multi-coloured moving backgrounds = vanish. It's been designed for (and probably tested in, looking at it) HD which is a bit of a problem when there isn't an HD simulcast going.
The DOG's almost impossible to make out, which sounds like a good thing but the result is a grey diamond shaped smudge in the centre of the screen (it's now 4:3 safe again for some reason). Can see them changing the text to white, possibly with a shadow, or increasing the size of the logo on the idents and trails. And I'm still not keen on that "E" out there on its tod, but that's me being picky.
Iron out the niggles and we're looking at a great package, though perhaps not one that'll prove as lasting as its predecessor... depends on how/if they develop it.
Thanks for that. Still quite a bit to see from the general package it seems but I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It looks nice enough - but isn't really distinctive - and the logo just seems slapped on. At least though they're using a "more4.com" URL - the "search for More4 online" tagline they've used the last year or so really bugged me.
