Ah so it is only possible on footage that was taped, and then cine-d to film. Makes sense I suppose.

Just been watching the clip of Ed Doolan's reel-to-reel audio recordings of Dad's Army - and how the sound on them is better than the BBC archive.

My dad has dozens of reel-to-reel off air recordings of Steptoe & Son (and possibly other programmes). I used to listen to them as a child.

I wonder if these might be of use to someone.

Are they in colour? It's most of the colour episodes they're missing I think.

It sounds like they're probably audio recordings. So no colour there

Gavin should get it checked anyway - over 100 episodes of Dr Who only exist as audio, so there might be something there which doesn't exist otherwise.
