Yes. On paper this should be one of the best sketch shows of all time.
In reality, however, it's about as funny as my arse - apart from the odd moment. Pretty disappointing, really.
The problem it has veyr high expectations because of the cast, such as Vic Reeves, Bob Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Alastair McGowan, Ronni Ancona, Mackenzie Cook to name a few, but overall it isn't that good.
As it was spun off from The All Star Comedy Show last year which again wasn't very good, not ITV's fault though as you can tell they've put alot of money into the programme, it's just not that funny.
Have to say it did make me smile but no more than that. It was ITVs fault as the people at the top would have approved every stage of the production process. Formulaic approach tends not to work.
Philip Banks says it's funny and performs it = No, doesn't work
Vic Reeves says it's funny and performs it = It works, well done. They wish it worked like that, but it doesn't.
People are interested in celebrities but it does not follow that celebrities are inherently interesting, Celebrity Love Island proves that. Good comedy comes from good performers and writers but again it doesn't follow that all that comes from good comedy writers and performers is good comedy.
Next sketch show series should be called "Laugh, I'm famous".
