Well I see Daily Mail have been unable to resist inserting "BBC" into their own article...

Presumably those complaining ignored the last few seconds which clearly shows he's alive and wasn't "blown up". At the end of the day no publicity is bad publicity and these articles complaining about the ad simply provide more publicity for the company/service.

Pathetic.
It was already a pretty feeble idea. "Annoying character gets blown up with bazooka".
How much did the new agency take for that wheeze?

They've now edited the advert so that, instead of him crawling out at the very end of the advert, he now crawls out straight after the explosion scene, before Sue reveals her identity.

I don't understand how that solves matters. If anything, it's reinforcing that he's survived - most people will probably see the Go Compare endcap and assume the ad's finished.

Well, no, that's not really the vernacular of these narrative-led ads, is it?
As its being presented as a story, particularly one which spans several slots within a junction, people will stay tuned to see the little epilogue. Some people may be thick, but if they know anything it's the language of television.
What its done is to indicate that Sue Barker is laughing at having blown Gio into a crater - NOT that she has successfully terminated him.
I mean - the whole conceit of the ad is that she's out to kill him; and they've gone and wrecked it because of the complaints of a few morons who probably find Tom & Jerry too violent.
When you get into analysing an ad campaign because of the creative flaws in it (as opposed to being "annoyed" by its theme or something), then its not working.

Are you saying that someone should try and kill off the meerkats?
If they did, there would probably be a lot more complaints about it (even though they aren't real meerkats) than the Go Compare advert.
I think the ad is great, riding on the annoyance the character has caused for most watchers. If only Compare the Market could do the same, their ads are terrible now.
