I think that Frankie became popular and well known because he was outrageous and people liked that but now he seems to push things too far as if he's trying to become more popular by being more outrageous but it's ending up that it's actually becoming nasty and not funny. He's perhaps looking for his own show as he seems to be trying to turn MTW into "The Frankie Boyle Show"

I enjoyed the clip show last night, good to watch, but because of the World Athletics Championships my box recorded to where it usually would end but of course the show overran, missing the last 5 - 10 minutes.

Yeah I take your point about Frankie. As much as I like him, I've noticed he's started to interupt other comedians... the other week Russell made an amusing quip about Marmite, and was buidling in on it-- then Frankie unfairly butted in and stole Russell's thunder.

Some of FB's jokes are getting meaner I'd agree; but to me they are not unfunny (of course that's down to individual taste): I do admire the way he sticks two fingers up to politcal-correctness and emotional incontinence about things these days-- personally I think it's healthy to laugh at such things... well Frankie is from Glasgow, so what else would we expect of him Wink

He certainly doesn't have a high opinion of Dundee, I note Laughing

Some favourite quotes of mine (just recently) are "Leon Jackson, winner of 2007 X Factor, is still selling records... at HMV Haisley!" and "That was a beatiful song... until you f*cking sang it!" xD

Well to be fair our female teenagers are not known for being fussy. Easiest way to get a council house in Dundee-have a baby! Many do it Confused

I think his ideas are good but sometimes he is just overly harsh and I completely agree with you about him interrupting but also Dara seems to be making more jokes aswell as if he's trying to play a bigger role

The other thing about Frankie is that most of his stuff gets cut because it's too offensive for the BBC2 show therefore he does much more material in a sort of scatter-gun effect. He has started a podcast which apparently contains the stuff he couldn't say on MTW (although it seems it's iTunes only which is a bit of a pain).

He is increasingly the highlight of the programme, although surprisingly some of his best contributions have been his surreal ramblings rather than his near the knuckle stuff.

Am I the only one to think that Frankie Boyle is just a plain ****? He's completely unfunny. He just seems to tell everyone that Scotland is crap, and then tells a couple of puerile jokes about someone. His act is hardly awe-inspiring.

Hugh Dennis is funny, Russell Howard is a quite humourous nutcase, Andy Parsons is obscure - but I like him, and Dara O'Briain is funny - but gets on my nerves very quickly. All of the regulars are just too different.

Surely being different is a good thing? They're all funny in their own way:

Hugh is funny but not on his best form on MTW (quite a few of his jokes are recycled from The Now Show) or are running gags (are you paying too much for your car insurance)

Russell Howard is the youngster doing the gags about being a child and modern trends

Andy Parsons is the cheesy gagsmith, a bit corny at times but comes up with the odd gem

Frankie is the outrageous one relying on shock value but very often comes up with a killer line that steals the show

Daira Is very funny but wasted as chairman of MTW

You've sort of proved my point - there's always going to be at least one that some person or another is going to find worse than the others - and that can be offputting. Fair enough, variety is good, but only if it varies. At least if there is someone bad on, they could be gone next week. There could be some semi-regulars, and the rest could be quickly interchangeable.

I can imagine a lot of 'edgier' material being edited out, especially after that joke about the Queen's speech-- plus they have to condense to half an hour.

It does seem at times like Frankie is taking over the show; I'm not sure if it's deliberate, or he's being just over-zealous Confused I take your point about Frank being harsh, I agree he can be. I personally don't mind him being harsh, because I've always considered his targets worthy of his scorn-- for instance Kerry Katona is not exactly Mother Theresa Wink

Also I think Frankie is always witty with his harshness (in my view anyway); or looking at it another way, the harshness adds to the humour. I think a Guardian critic once summed him up perfectly:

"This is meat-and-potatoes stand-up; but the sauce is tart, the meat's bleeding and the spuds are hard as rock"

Or more likely, he just says the funniest lines.

That is the main criteria as to what gets left in and what gets left out

If...you read this...whilst browsing Sick...ipedia for jokes to use on...'Mock The Week'...Could...someone please tell...Andy Parsons that hesitating after every few words...does not make you...funny.

Good impersonation Very Happy I think Andy's staccato delivery can sometimes add humour to his jokes-- but it does have a "dripping tap" effect after a while. Not as irritating as his tendency to towards loud talking, as if he's talking against a gale Rolling Eyes

As for editing: It's more question of what the editor finds funny, since humour is subjective (IE nobody can judge definitively whether something is funny or not); but clearly the editor favours Frankie-- unless they have a panel of editiors making decisions?
