I've found streaming TV on phones very strange.

It seems that Mobile TV has gone the exact opposite way than standard TV has.
It started out a couple of years ago with on-demand clips, and now they seem to be slowly ditching that in favour of live TV.

I edit Mobile TV clips for ITV that are available on the mobile portal as on-demand clips, which I think is a much better way of doing it. As many people have said above, if you've got a TV, why the hell would you want to watch anything live on your mobile? I think if you really enjoyed something on TV, and you wanted a copy of it to watch again, on-demand works fine, but live TV over a 3G connection is abysmal, even in a strong signal area!

I've never quite understood the preference for streaming, but it looks like its the way forward.

I didn't know much about the London bombings until that evening because I didn't have access to a TV for most of that day. If I had Sky News or BBC on my phone I would have known straight away.

Most of the features on mobile channels are less than 3 minutes long anyway.

Some mobile channels in the style of EuroNews or the ITN mobile videos might work - one for news, one for sport, entertainment, weather, etc. People don't actually sit down and watch it for hours on end anyway - that's not the intention but it's really useful if something happens and you need info fast.

I've never understood the need for TV on your mobile.

I had a hard time getting my head around You Tube to begin with, but now I spend hours editing and uploading clips. Similarly I didn't think I had a need for the internet on the move, but am now getting a phone with full net access.

The cuture of information and entertainment technology is changing so rapidly that our expectations are changing with it. Or at least mine are.

Although I can't say I want TV on my phone yet, I expect I will within 12 months or so.

In answer to the question posed earlier in the thread, I think I would like *both* HDTV via terrestrial and mobile TV.

But on a 3" screen?

I haven't tried it, but surely net access on a screen that small is nigh-on impossible?

Nokia N95 is one option, until the Ultra Mobile PC gets within my price range.

IMO, using a full desktop or laptop computer is the only proper way of getting full internet access. With more and more
laptops being built with near widescreen displays, and desktop computer displays getting bigger, I fail to understand
why anyone would want to access the full internet on the piddling little screen of a cellphone!

Same goes for TV ... as already pointed out, with large HDTV capable plasma widescreen TV's constantly falling in
price, and with all mainstream TV channels broadcasting almost all their content in full 16:9 widescreen format,
why even bother attemtpting to watch TV on a screen barely any bigger than a thumbnail?!? It may be OK for
catching up on the news, with short one minute headline bulletins, but that's about it.

Like when "3" were advertising with those silly big eyed cartoon characters a few years ago, with annoying slogans
like ... "Watch goals ... on yer mobile!" and "Watch music videos ... on yer mobile!", I was thinking, "Why the hell
would I want to do that?!?" If I want to watch goals (usually never) I'd switch my TV on to Sky Sports News.
If I want to watch music videos, I'd switch on my TV to any of the music video TV channels.

I think too many peoplel, and the mobile companies especially, are forgetting the real reason why most people
have mobile phones, to make and recieve telephone calls on the move. Not for pointless, pixellated videoclips
and TV we can easily watch on the bigger screens we have in our homes they were made to be viewed on!

I really don't see the point of watching TV clips on your phone, IMO.
My phone company rang me up today and asked me if i wanted a free upgrade to this Sony Erricson Somthing or Other. No because i like the phone i've got. They said you can watch free TV Clips on it, but whats the point? I own a TV! As one Mock the Week Comedian put it: 'I don't watch tv on my phone is because i own a tv, it's the same reason i don't take a piss in my tumble dryer!' Laughing Very Happy

You don't take a p*** in your tumble dryer because you own a TV?! Shocked Wink

Why not just build a freeview/DVB-T reciever into the handsets? That way you'd be able to watch all the channels, using existing infrastructure, for free.

Aaaahhhhhh - that'd be why then - less money for the bloomin' phone networks.... Idea

I wouldn't want to have a bath in my kitchen sink, so why would want to watch TV on my phone???

That really is an excellent and pertinent analogy! Laughing

Have you ever tried fitting a wideband, high-gain Yagi aerial in your pocket?
