Northern Ireland were putting out This Week half an hour behind network, so their announcer had to come in at the point of the breakdown and explain (over the red BBC One animating graphic) why they were suddenly jumping from a VT report featuring an Indiana Jones spoof, to a sombre studio discussion on abortion.

This was another mistake from UTV on Thursday night. During the last break of TV's Naughtiest Blunders, the breakbumper failed to play so we got a long period of black, then the UTV News Production endcap and then the generic UTV slide before finally the breakbumper played. Because of this there was no room for all of the adverts so we crashed back into the programme in the middle of an advert. Then, after the programme, the Britain's Got Talent promo failed to play so it went to adverts and then another cut to the UTV Holiday Weather in the middle of the first advert!

What happens if all the adverts aren't played out for whatever reason? Are the advertisers refunded?

Connews
I suppose from an Ofcom sense, they are entitled to have another interval within the hour if it respects the advertising limit for the channel per hour.

Not sure if this clip qualifies for this thread but I'll post..

één (sort of like the Flanders BBC One) continuity announcer, Geena Lisa; was making a routine announcement when the boy runs in to the studio and drank her water from the table and back again.

Caught that one too! Very funny. Thats happened before to Jay Wynne too I think, must be a fault with the systems.

It was on timer, so I don't think he left enough time for himself at the end!

A nice lesson in 'not paying attention' from Jo Coburn this morning on the NC. Simon McCoy had a smug grin on his face and seemed to delight in her gaff. However, I thought her recovery was admirable and she quickly switched into 'serious mode'.

No, looks like the system worked perfectly, he just didn't talk quick enough!

The computer that produces and plays out the weather works like an edit suite timeline with each element being set to come in/appear for a certain time or when manually triggered

There's clauses in the contracts for ad sales which take account of adverts not going out for technical or editorial reasons.

Very few are 'spot adverts' - a company will buy a campaign over a certain amount of time so if a commercial is missed it'll normally just be rescheduled for another time.

That said, it is very rare for an ad break to to technically fail, such is their importance.
