Yes, you're absolutely right, I would have my finger hovering over the record button during each junction until I had all of the idents recorded.

We first got Sky Digital on 22nd June 1999 according to my diary, so clips recorded from digital do indeed start at that point with the BBC Knowledge ident. Then I got OnDigital in my room on 19th August 1999, the same week it became available in my area. Late in 2000 that I changed the setting to letterbox mode, so then I started recording all the idents again in widescreen, which are on a separate compilation I have uploaded to YouTube.



I would only start recording if it turned out to be an ident I didn't already have recorded, hence the missing second or two from the beginning of most clips. The Trumpet ident started with the trumpet, daffodil and elephant's trunk in that order, and my recording is missing the first two. I didn't like this particular ident very much so didn't make much effort to try to record it again.



Others have already answered this, but I do recall the 888 caption very early on, however not many BBC Choice or Knowledge programmes were subtitled early on so it was rare to see it.

I visited this is five website a lot of times, loved it. I need Milkshakes clips with Incy wincy spider in them and some of the idents are in video.

Then why are some of idents still claimed to be missing yet you know they're not and can be clearly be seen on that website?

Just to point out that Granada did have an original 1997 Christmas ident which wasn't just the '96 one reused. Sadly, to date, it hasn't turned up on the internet and I'm hard pressed to remember exactly what it entailed but there is (or was) a video on Youtube which contained an end cap version of it.

TV Live seems to have stills of a late '80s Central ident with a Channel 4 logo in it (similar to the ITV ones around at the time). Never knew that existed and it would be nice to see it in action.

The '96 Carlton Home & Away ident was withdrawn quite early, as I understand; so getting hold of that would be some feat. There may well have been a Central version too, just never shown. The ident which morphs 'CARLTON' into the '89 ITV logo seems rare on the internet despite it not being an especially rare ident. Can't find it on Youtube at the moment and I'm not sure whether I've ever seen the Central version, although it did exist.

Granada Christmas 1997 - I wonder if that was the year they only had Christmas idents on Christmas Day? That definitely happened one year. I have a vague memory of a clip of one person handing a present to somebody else, with “Christmas on Granada’ written in a black bar across the bottom of the screen. May have been a different year though.

That’s the one. Must have been 1995 or 1997 given the ident on the TV.

Unbelievably this ident was from 1994, it showed the new G Arrow about a week before it debuted. From memory it wasn’t used for long over the Christmas period.
