Wasn't 170 the start of the Oracle magazine for each region prior to the 200's opening up?
BL

Suspect that was playing in off a cart or ACR of some sort. May be able to find out later.

I'd be interested. Always looked way too clean to me to be on tape, and like I said I saw a generator producing it at IBC.

Was told at the time that it was TVS who had the first computer generated ident rather than Channel 4. Of course the elements of the TVS one were obviously combined in some sort of DVE but I suppose it's a valid claim?

Yes, TVS came on air 10 months before C4, so fair enough (Though what about TSW's ?)

TVS inherited the original Southern Marconi presentation control room facilities so a bit limited in what could be done, I think it was around 86/87 that they built new control rooms where telecine used to be - separate control rooms for the two regions, computed assisted and a bit more 'whizz bangy' I suspect.

Yes, and with a watered down version of C4's CATS automation system ?

Ah, I thought the one you saw at IBC was the one with the blue background - my mistake. Will try and find out more over the holidays if I remember. The less said about TSW's ident the better I think!

I think TVS used a Drake system, but again I'm not sure, I can find out.

That ident is 100% correct!

Many thanks. The clip is certainly genuine, the Oracle 170 caption may have been a grave error ?!

I can find a sort of reference that Oracle was still using 199 in 1983, and that clip is from Aug 84

Well look at that. So Oracle aligned themselves with Ceefax and used P170, before the change to P888.

As a Christmas bonus question, what did Oracle on C4 use 82-85 ? I think subtitles on 4 were still
(then) under Oracle's responsibility, and no 4-Tel, so presumably they were not P470 or 499 etc ?

Well that's disappointing. We don't get to see the cockup on the 1990s regional Tyne Tees service where they misspelled the station name (Tyne Tess) on the header page for three months before I eventually broke down and told them about it.

I've still got a lot of tapes from the mid 90s to work through the Tyne Tees ancillary services on for my site, so I might still run into it yet. Wink Although admittedly there are normally a lot of character errors on the recovered text anyway so it's hard to know what is a genuine typo!

I do seem to recall Tyne Tess kicking around during the post Channel 3 North East era text, although I imagine that was all hastily re-edited about as quickly as the ident package so not entirely surprising.

Wow ! That's my Christmas sorted Laughing

Interesting to see some of the odd stuff that early Ceefax had, especially in the miscellany sections on 190/290. I can't find any examples but occasionally there would be a page there that was just a logo of a game show, used when the game show such as Bob's Full House gave away a telly and they'd put that page on it.

Anyone know what 'Orbit' was?
