YTV definitely had a clock later than 1996. It survived well into the C3 era, and beyond -- I think it finally disappeared in 1998 when Granada's pres was moved to Leeds.

Granada were still using theirs in 1990, but I think it disappeared in that year.

Didn't Thames continue to use their mechanical clock into the 1989 ITV era? Very strange decision for a large company.

STV were still using a clock in the mid-late 90s. The latest example I can find on YouTube is from December 1994. Skip to 1:15 in this video below for the clock. I'm sure I can remember there being a clock in the look they had after this one too.

It surprising TT never used the clock during 96-98. I remember now the numbers where all chervons, and I think it was only used going into ITN news.

It lasted until the 96 rebrand.

TT didn't take YTV's clock for the most part even before then. There were a few occasions where it appeared, but these were mostly on the overnight service. The only time TT had a clock during day/peak hours was a short period during March-August 1996 when pres from Newcastle had already ended. Before this, TT would have had a static ident rather than the clock (before YTV took over TT had always used the full ident before the news or before local programmes, and only very rarely outside these times).

Having all the numbers replaced by italic 3 logos wouldn't have been a good look I have to say -- although they could have just had a single 3 in the 3 position...

Thanks for proving TT did have a clock even if it was a short period. I take it the clock used was this one

Replace YTV logo with TT logo Wink

Definitely the exact same clock.

I'd put a reasonable sum on the blue clock being computer generated and the multicoloured one being a camera looking at a model.

Exactly right (with the Y in the background replaced with a plain blue gradient also).

The above clock was used by YTV from October 1994.

Prior to this, there was a YTV clock which was blue with grey stripes (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIEtfQvn0gY for the general design). This was very occasionally used on TT overnights as well (with the logo keyed over the top as was the case with the slides).

I'm not sure I'd class these as "TT having a clock" though as Newcastle really had no input.

Pretty sure they're both computer generated...TVS definitely started out with a mechanical clock but went computer a year or two later.

Yes, that's my memory too. TVS definitely started with a 'real' clock, it varied in size (depending whether or not someone had fiddled with the camera !), and had hand judder.

Here's the mechanical clock (on day one of TVS) Note the minute markings too

As I said up thread , I saw an electronic crate displaying the TVS clock at IBC 1984

Night shift clock.

Interestingly, that first clock from 1994 *isn't* the one they used overnight when TTT took it. It was similar, but without the logo, which was keyed on using the same graphic as they used for the next slides. This wasn't used for long though as Night Shift ended only a short time before the graphics were changed to the one you posted earlier.

The clock I refer to appeared on YouTube some time ago.

You'll note though that all these clocks (including the one from 96-9Cool are all using the same software as the 1989 ITV one.

Ill have to have a good poke around for the earlier clock. Hopeful it just will hidden.

The only company not to update its clock was thames, yes it was only seen at 5am but still no computer clock for them.
