Remember that 2006 doesn't start until one second after midnight. This is due to a leap second being added to December 31 because of the slowing down of the Earth's rotation.

Laughing I can just imagine Joe looking precisely at his watch while everyone says Happy New Year then he'll say it. Like Trigger from Only Fools!

So there we have it, Good riddence to 2005. Happy New Year for later on people. Cool

Surely it still starts at midnight, but midnight will follow the leap second?

00:00:00 will be counted twice according to the science boffins.

Anyway, after many years of disappointment going out on the toon on a NYE i've decided to stay in tonight with some NFL football tonight, until 4am Smile

Miserable NYE TV? Yes - BBC2 is staying up all night. I might have to do something radical like, go to bed.

I'll be watching Jools' Annual Hootenanny on TWO as we head into '06.

Happy New Year...for when it comes.

Yes, darn those television channels showing programmes all the time. It's outrageous.

The New Year celebrations are always dull in the UK - across Europe they are more exciting, especially Germany.

Would it not have been less inconvenient for them to have inserted the extra second when the clocks went back a couple of months ago?
