I don't disagree, however I think they're beginning to turn it around.
New series of Sabrina, My Parents Are Aliens, Jungle Run and Art Attack are all proving as strong, if not stronger than ever and the brand new shows like 'All Grown Up' are showing signs of a return to form by CITV!
The real test will be this new saturday show in January! I hope ITV give it room to breathe and time to develop. The BBC seems to axe their saturday shows after a year if they're not working. If ITV had worked the same way then SMTV would have been pulled in it's first twelve months, cause it was rubbish! Only during it's second year did it start become the show we all remember.
Most people also forget that Dick and Dom had done over 100 episodes of Da Bungalow on the CBBC Channel before it crossed over to terrestrial, so they had ironed out most of the creases...well, having said that...!
Only ten weeks then, before the battle for saturday morning supremecy begins!

Actually SM:tv was saved from axe because it started to turn it around within the first year, by creating an audience, creating more sketches, and in some ways the quickness and quirkyness of features created a fast moving show that i hope the new show will hook onto. They never had proper sketches with sets, instead they just had random characters that popped up on the cd:uk stages, and in the middle of links, and all were integrated into the show.
The progress of CiTV should really be put onto new ideas that CiTV have commissioned and produced rather than imports. Shows like globoloco, starfinder, you can do magic, beat the cyborgs, star, and returning series jungle run, art attack and my parents aliens should be looked at to determine how CiTV is changing.
And for me compared to a few years ago where the schedule was dominated by re runs and imports, CiTV is starting to get back on its own feet again. And unlike previous UK commissions, I cant say that there is a single show that I have watched and not enjoyed. I have really enjoyed every show, they are thinking about the programmes before they spend money on them, they have tackled their image and completely overhauled their look, and have Michael & leah that are extremely good at what they do, have a perfect chemistry and have a good relationship with the kids!

Taken from The Sun Bizarre Oct 21st
LIBERTY X star MICHELLE HEATON is tipped to be the new face of Saturday morning kids’ TV.
The singer is close to signing a deal to host ITV1’s replacement for SM:tv. ROBBIE WILLIAMS’ mate JONATHAN WILKES is expected to co-host the untitled show, which starts in January.
An ITV1 source told me: “Producers were impressed with Michelle when she appeared on SM:tv in the past because she is so confident in front of the camera.
“Liberty X are not splitting up but Michelle is keen to do the show. It should only be a matter of time before she signs a contract.”
SM:tv will go to air for the last time on December 20 and bosses hope Michelle and Jonathan will bring back viewers who have switched off since the departure of ANT McPARTLIN and DEC DONNELLY.
The popular duo were launch presenters with CAT DEELEY from 1998 until they quit two years ago.
Although there are three months to go until the relaunch, Michelle and Jonathan have plenty to keep themselves busy.
Jonathan will start presenting You’ve Been Framed when LISA RILEY quits the show next month and Michelle will be hard at work with the band, who released their new single Jumpin’ yesterday.
The track will go head-to-head with BLUE’s Guilty, also released yesterday.

Jonathan Wilkes... oh dear. This guy is incredibly annoying. I see they're going down the singers-not-presenters route that they always did when an SMTV regular was off. You know, those weeks when it was just unwatchable.
My dream team for the new show would be Stephen Mulhearn, Emma Griffiths and Brian Conley (he once filled in for Ant and Dec, he was fantastic).

Jonathan Wilkes is OK, and has been good on SM:tv, but when he did SM:tv, he wasn't the one to do random thinks on Live TV; he tended to leave these to Brian Dowling! I'm not sure that he will have what Stephen could offer. I wonder if Stephen turned it down or whether he just wasnt asked!?
Michelle!?!?!?!?!??! I've only seen her once on SM:tv, and I didnt think she was that good. She was good at reading the autocue, but had no liveliness about her. Lisa Scott Lee had much about her, she was very good with Live TV. People like Dannielle Nicholls; in your face, loud, brash, but good at live tv. Even Holly Willowmena (or whatever it is) is good at her job, let presenters do their job, and present! Why have they basically got two singers. Well I know Jonathan has moved on from singing. but he still is.
Brian Conley was very good on SM:tv live. I dont think he'd be what people would expect. but stick him with some young girl, and bob's your uncle. itv aren't doing anything else with him at the mo anyway!
Without Brian, I think they should definately use Stephen (I wonder if its that they dont want him to jump from sm:tv to the new show?!), and if I were them, I would have gone for the BBC's other Saturday Show presenter, and now xchange presenter along with s4c's planed planet (does she still do this?) and itv's Dial-a-Date, thats Sara Elgan (formerly Sara Elgan Reece). She is great at all that she has presented and would have thought that her & Stephen would work well together. Obviously they have other ideas.
Dont come crying to us itv when the new show fails!
Could we see a Dani & Joe, where by the new presenters are dropped soon after for better presenters.

My dear Forumers...you may be interested to know that ITV1Saturday mornings is about to undergo a re-vamp. Our old favorite The Maidstone Studios in Kent (ex TVS) at Vinters Park will possibly be home to a new 'LIVE' show ( It was home to old ratings winners, Motormouth, No73 and Whats Up Doc in the 80's & 90's)
It'll be lead by three presenters , still to be finalised, but of course Nigel Pickard (ITV1 Director of Progs) is an old stalwart of the Maidstone Studios and still has strong links with the place and the people who work there.
So watch out for something fresh and new in the near future. As they say, can't tell you much more at the moment!
Also, what's this I hear about the South Bank being sold off??!!
Ah! Could it be that Stephen will be presenting and joined by Michelle & Jonathan? I like how they (may) have gone for a group of names that roll off the tongue! Stephen, Michelle & Jonathan, is of course much easier than Ant, Dec & Cat!
How about Steve, Chelle & Jon. Maybe not then!

Hi everyone,
I've just received the following message from Kelly at Fame

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for your email about your Yahoo group. I can ensure you
that neither Fame Academy or Holly are offended by your group - in
fact the screen cap of S Club TV gave us all a giggle one very early
morning when getting ready for one of our morning shows!!! Holly was
very impressed that you find such old footage, and is pleased that
she has many dedicated fans. She also asked me to pass on the
breaking news that she is going to move to CITV to present the new
Saturday morning flagship show - once SM:TV has finished in
December. She is very excited about it - but we are sad to lose her
from the BBC.
Anyway - it has been fun listening to your group - we will all be
leaving the Academy on Friday, just a few days left and it will all
be over again - how time flys!!!
Thank you for watching and supporting Holly - she very much
appreciates it!

Another "must have" should be informative content. Swap Shop, Going Live, L&K and even Tiswas all had these but sadly the ratings war has led to this being forced out. Why can't today's Saturday shows have an agony section or documentary strand (Going Live had a video diary-type feature).
As for bringing back Tiswas, great idea but Chris Tarrant would need to be part of it. Forget his age - look at the ITV idents and you'll see he hasn't lost it.

I don't think there's much wrong with SM:tv to be honest. It's getting better again. Some must have things are:

Good Music
Interesting Guests
Interactivity (such as ask guests questions)
Live audience
Big, widescreen, open studio

I wouldn't be suprised at all. The SMTV format worked well for all these years and I can see the new ITV show slowly morphing into a clone of this.

For me, shows with big studios and live audiences have more oompf than shows with no audience and a small studio (compare SM:tv and Saturday Milkshake for example). I've got the feeling that they might 'do a GMTV' by starting completely different from SM:tv then slowly becoming SM:tv again.

Bring back Ant Dec and Maybe Cat to present a show together.
Ant and Dec in my opinion r the only people who will win ratings back from dick and dom on bbc1. Apparantly Michelle from liberty x, and Jonothan ' Robbies mate' Wilkes are set to take over saturday mornins on itv. what do you think ov that ?

Cilla Black was superb on SM:tv when she was a guest presenter! I'd like to see people like Cilla, Chris Tarrant and Brian Conley on the new show more often.
