Angus didn't make HIGNFY his own though. Guest presenters work well on that because Merton and Hislop basically run that show. All the host's job is to read the autocue and Paul and Ian do the ad-libbing. Angus became a target for his own humiliation in the end so he had to go.
With Mark leaving Buzzcocks (one series or not), I personally feel it will be much more noticable. Yes, ok, the show has got silly in recent years but I find that more enjoyable.
I always thought Buzzcocks was a poor man's HIGNFY. A lot of the answers they give to questions are so obviously rehearsed for comic purposes - to the extent that they'll make a joke about a section of a video and instantly that section will be up on the screens in slomo for them to see again. And those "you sing the intro - I guess the record" rounds must also be significantly rehearsed.
Ok so if you believe Piers Morgan, HIGNFY is pretty much the same. I've got no idea if it is or not, but if it is, they do a much better job at hiding it than Buzzcocks.
Like another poster I also find Lamarr's reliance on being rude about people to get a laugh very very tiring. I watched this show a few times 5 years ago but the novelty has completely gone.

I think it's safe to say that most 'spontaneity' on TV is heavily rehearsed beforehand.
The problem for Lamarr is that he's really not very good.
I'm fairly confident the show will be significantly better with the guest presenters and the BBC will struggle to justify his return...it'll become another HIGNFY with revolving presenters (which I still think is an excellent).
Lamarr has the annoying habit of repeating jokes such as the 'pierced pyrinia', and Victoria Beckham's 'unbroken vow of talentlessness'.
Granted that acts like the above and Westlife are worthy of the stick but I am getting bored of his childish jokes and the idea of guest presenters should add new life into the show. As long as Bill Bailey is still present it should still be watchable!
