EastEnders has never been my favourite soap but Mike was one of the few people who made it watchable. Who could forget his expedition to France and Frank's shock on discovering Diane was "up the duff"? And on learning the baby's father was possibly a German, he exploded in the most non-PC way: "Are you telling me my grandson is a ruddy Kraut?"
A sad loss indeed; he would almost certainly have been persuaded to come back again. RIP Mike.
That's sad news. I think I'll always remember him as Frank off Eastenders - he really made the character memorable.
No doubt this will most come as a shock to the people who'd been told he was in good health recently, as they would never have thought to expect this. A real shame.
EastEnders won't be the same anymore without Pat and Peggy fighting over Frank, and your inevitable 'Pat... Pat... Pat!... What have ya done to me Pat?!' line (that weirdly was also used in a milk advert).
Well, Him Upstairs will be in stitches now with your jokes.
He truly was an inspiration to my student radio show. Myself and my friends became fans of his not only through Eastenders, but through his 1994 adult pantomime 'Pussy in Boots.' Which can be found at most car boot sales.

Good grief - I had no idea he'd been active recently. Any ideas when that was filmed? This is very sad.
EDIT - Or was it never filmed, due to be a 'live' show?
It's already been recorded. More info here :
In April and May 2007 the three television and music personalities, Mike Reid, Malcolm McLaren and Suzanne Shaw, took part in a reality television programme in Gardenstown, Banffshire, near Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland. Their aim was to become a part of the fishing village within the two weeks they were living in Gardenstown.
After trying to become part of the community the 1000 local villagers took part in a secret ballot to vote for one of the three celebrities to become the Laird with the title The 13th Baron of Troup. This actual title was bought especially by ITV for the reality TV programme. So the winner of The Baron of Troup will walk away with the title. It is an ancient title that relates to a nearby area. The Baron of Troup will be broadcast on ITV1 during the summer of 2007, provisionally for a screen time of August.
That's a great shame to hear of his death. He was great in EastEnders and always brought a huge degree of realism and grittiness to the cast's performances. A shame he will never again pop up for a guest appearance.
