I thought this maybe deserved a thread on it's own (seeing as many might miss the news in a generic thread). Former EastEnders actor Mike Reid has died at the age of 67.

He died in Spain of a heart attack.

A huge shock this is. Sad

Mike was truely a fantastic cockney comedian, gameshow host (with Runaround) and even had a single called "Ugly Duckling" in the 70s.

In EastEnders he always came across as a cheeky but sentimental character - who can forget the night he surprised Pat wearing just a spinning bowtie!

What a shame, thoughts go out to his friends and family and former fellow EastEnders cast members.

"Listen Pat, have a word wiv' y'self darlin"

Mike Reid was living in Spain when he died
Former EastEnders actor Mike Reid has died at the age of 67 after suffering a heart attack, his agent said.

The actor, who played Frank Butcher in the BBC soap, was living in Spain at the time of his death.

Mr Reid started out as a stand-up comedian in clubs and on cruise liners, before appearing in TV shows including Steptoe and Son, Doctor Who and Minder.

His agent David Hahn told the BBC that Mr Reid had been feeling very well in the past few weeks.

He said: "Mike was in fine fettle form. In fact only a couple of weeks ago we were having dinner over here.

"Mike that particular day went to see his consultant and had a full medical - and they gave him a clean bill of health."

Sad to hear of Mike Reid's death - a good bloke and never one to take himself too seriously, and no more Frank Butcher in EastEnders either...

Bit of a shock indeed - I felt he was an actor who's character could happily keep popping up on EastEnders every few years for a good storyline.

Be nice if they dedicate an episode one day next week to him at the end of the credits.

It is tragic news. Especially considering the sad circumstances of his son's death years ago.
