Just watched midlands today and the sports lady was presenting the weather where she sits for the sport, without a plasma screen but behind here it looked like the studio had been extended - with a yellow wall.

Anybody see this?

Whats going on?

The studio has always had a yellow wall actually. It's just you never actually see it. Basically the studio has the CSO to the left (looking from the front) - this is a grey coloured bit of perspex which is lit from behind with blue light (thats why shefali looks transparent sometimes). Then theres the desk, then it comes round and the alcoves are yellow lit, but the same as the walls in real life. Theres only about 2 alcoves and then it resembles the back of an argos store....

I dunno what the sports woman was doing the weather for though... maybe the CSO had broken, along with Shefali (who was OK at Lunchtime - not many mistakes either...)

nothing changed in the studio... today shefali and ashley were out in the pebble mill garden(i think), where ashley would have done an OB about something, then shefali would have done the weather out there.  BUT there was a problem (nick and sue said it was 'gremlins')- im presuming something went wrong at the last minute.

so after a report - we were told alison the sports woman would do the weather (she was already sitting at the desk anyway), which she did sitting down, reading from the script, with the side map.

then we had nick and sue, quite succesfully, adlib the last 5 minutes of the show due to the lost OB - by telling us about a story in the paper (i cant remember what) - then telling us whats on next week's show.  oh and the studio lights went out for a second during the last 5 minutes

Now that's what you call regional news!

I am actually coming to like Midlands Today more and more. They seem to have got a lot better since the new look Central News West, but I want to know if and when they are going to move into the Mailbox! They need a bigger studio with modern equipment, and most importantly - they need widescreen cameras.

heres the audio of the last few minutes (slightly edited) - notice how slow they talk, and 'difficult to give you more details as weve got nothing to go on' is code for 'we're reading from the evening mail'  lol
midlands today 23/11/01
btw i dont think midlands today is a patch on central news

I was walking around the Mailbox the other day and theres a huge sign saying 'BBC Birmingham coming soon to the mailbox' with a big picture of Sue and Nick, along with Malcolm Boyden and Ed Doolan from WM. I wonder if the move to the mailbox, with WM going there too, will mean a BBC LDN style program? I haven't heard any rumors going around the studio at work that local radio will have anything to do with it but it's possible. I have seen stuff about the WM studios, which will be entirley glass so people can see in...

Mids 2Day is definitley going 2 widescreen when they move - however I think their problem is getting the mill knocked down without the asbestos in there completley engulfing the city in dust... there are signs on almost every door at WM saying 'caution... asbestos'... anyway thats another story...
