Why was he on News 24, and how long was he on for? I'm just back from uni you see, and I don't know a thing!

Michael Buerk certainly has a history with BBC News. I've seen him on the old blue BBC News set, the current one, the news set they used on that special BBC One programne where they broadcasted live for over 24 hours into 2000, and now the BBC News 24 set.

I thought News 24 bosses had Carrie Gracie and Gavin Esler on from 7:00pm tonight, and then shoved Carrie out of the way to put Michael Buerk on. But I don't think that was the case, as the above picture (in the first post) shows.

It seems that once in a while, a 'regular' BBC News presenter appears on BBC News 24, if not, the other way round! But it's only once in a blue moon that you see one News 24 presenter and one normal BBC News presenter on the News 24 set. Perhaps they chose Michael Buerk because they didn't have much time, and he was at the BBC preparing for tonight's BBC News @ Ten (if he's presenting it).

It's not very often you see him sitting that side.

Usually the person who's sitting on the left (where Gavin is in that picture above) says 'This is BBC News 24, I'm...' and the person on the right is the first person to read the main news story at the top of the hour.

Yeah, Gavin was on the right 7:00-7:30 with Carrie - then he shifts to the left from 7:30! But I've seen him on the left before - don't him and Carrie alternate?

His name is MICHAEL BUERK!! Somebody try to spell our first name's (and in Buerky's case, surname) correctly!!!

Maybe they put him on so viewers on BBC 1 that don't have digital are watching someone they know and are familiar with. Instead of 2 Complete strangers. Even though I have digital I still don't know all of the presenters names.
