THEREFORE if anyone posts bad comments about the new show they must also be valid against the many years worth of programmes already broadcast on BBC tv! especially if nothing has actually changed apart from the insertion of a few advert breaks!

Not necessarily, I think it's crap now, it'll be crap on ITV too

'moving the set to the ITV building' will be just a bit of journalistic license.

There's no way they would have even thought about the finer details of the programe when the ink's barly dry on the contract

It does sound premature, but Parky quite clearly said in the Nina Nannar interview that Nigel Pickard had told him that they would "simply" move the set to "their building".

Very true, but when Des moved to ITV in 1999, one of his reasons was that there was more live coverage than the BBC at the time and that he was more interested in, but it went pearshaped when ITV got The Premiership and asked him to present it.

Not quite, the loss of premiership and FA Cup football from the BBC was the major factor to him going. However he'd always wanted to do MOTD in an early evening slot, but the BBC had always refused to do it. ITV got the premiership rights and promised an early evening highlights programme so Des went to present it.

The early evening Premiership turned out to be a major turkey (as the BBC knew it would be hence they'd never done it before) and it moved back to the original slot that Des presented it in the first place. ]

Now that ITV have lost the FA Cup, the premiership and the nationwide league and the BBC have got by perfectly by without him.... Des looks like he made the wrong decision..... his career isn't what it once was

....but it isn't meant literally.

It's journalistic exageration and clever spin to persuade his fans that nothing will change

I have to say he seemed slightly more "up himself" than I perceived him to be, and what's all this rubbish about him having to change the show to a variety show if it were at 9pm? I don't follow his logic about chat shows belonging only at 10 o'clock, and different audiences watching then to at 9. If a programme has a loyal audience, the majority of them will watch it - whether it's at 9 or 10 o'clock (and whether it's on BBC One or ITV!). It seems to me like there was some other motive behind his decision.

Am I imagining that Parkinson used to be on at about 9pm a couple of years ago? If so, why didn't he have a problem with it then?

Wasn't he on before 22:00 this Saturday. I think this ten o'clock thing is just an excuse to hide the fact that he is getting more money.

Remember when Michael Aspel took This is Your Life to the BBC? (circa 1993)

Parkinson will be interesting on ITV what with the commercial breaks. I don't think it will have the same feel as it did on BBC 1.

Parky says he wants to keep everything the same.....well..... This IS ITV - loud and in ya face? The set will probably work but the lighting will need to be improved, The theme music will need to be jazzed up (and seeming as Laurie Holloway played the Blind Date music - there should be no prob there), The title font should probably change.

Although I despise paid commercial messages (except for political candidates), I would have thought that a chat show such as that hosted by Michael Parkinson would work well with the breaks providing natural pauses between guests.

And is this not the type of popular programming which the Conservative Party have stated should be on the Independent commercial television networks rather than BBC?

The theme tune is currently played in live to every show by the band...

The anti-ITV brigade haven't disappointed me so far on this thread!

You have all posted exactly the type of responses that I expected!
Maybe you just can't accept sour grapes and it's not even THAT important!

Im sure there were some posts a while back wanting Cilla Black and Bruce Forsythe to retire from their current programmes and im sure there were posts saying that they should give the younger presenters a chance. Then lo and behold BBC sign both of these presenters up and then they are deemed the best thing since sliced bread!

I have never really liked Parkinson that much and will only watch depending on the guests whereas something like Jonathon Ross I will watch for the presenter first and then the guests!

It looks like the programme will be VERY similar on ITV with the same mix of guests!

THEREFORE if anyone posts bad comments about the new show they must also be valid against the many years worth of programmes already broadcast on BBC tv! especially if nothing has actually changed apart from the insertion of a few advert breaks!

Everything needs updating about the Parkinson programme (even the presenter) but maybe thats the beauty of the programme - the simplicity?

Ah well at least ITV wont't have to scurry around and fill the 22:00 slot with repeats now! (famous last words...........)

Is anybody actually listening to this oaf? He has important things to say, you know.

And he's another one who mutters illegibly... and he presents Through The Keyhole which should have been put to bed a long time ago.

I've never liked David Frost. He seems to be respected and full of importance for no particularly spectacular reason. Why he became 'Sir David', I don't know. Knighthoods should be reserved for people who have contributed overwhelmingly to their country.

I thought he would have been booted out of the BBC a long time ago. It was a good few years since his nose started p*ssing with blood for no reason while doing his live Sunday morning programme, and the hilarious incident when his spectacles fell apart live on air. This dusty, bumbling old codger should have been put out to pasture long ago.

As for Through The Keyhole, that programme has to be the most boring and out-of-date shows currently on the BBC. Who the hell is that woman who now does Loyds bit? She even tries (miserably) to speak like him.

Who does this programme appeal to? Yes, my mother used to watch it when it was on at 7pm on a Wednesday evening with a fairly well-known celebrity, but that was over a decade ago. No one except for those who live in a rose-tinted timewarp (Simon L), likes this show anymore. Get Frost, and TTK off our screens now.
