It wasn't an extra programme as such - though it was re-scheduled. Originally the BBC Three schedules had EastEnders revealed at 2000 (occupying Liquid's normal slot) - presumably because EastEnders finished at 2000 on BBC One. Then What Not To Wear was scheduled at 2030 - with Liquid News only scheduled to transmit at 0000. (I assume they would have pre-recorded this at 2000 in their normal live slot?)
However with the Jackson stuff happening it must have made sense to go live at 2030?
The use that BBC Three's 7 O'Clock News and News 24 made of Liquid's LA Bureau Chief Steph West shows how much they will miss having Liquid's LA office when the programme finishes... It is such a shame.

Liquid News at 2030 tonight on BBC Three has been giving extra coverage on the allegations surrounding Michael Jackson. Does anyone know how it's being covered in the US?
Here are some captures from Liquid News. Does anyone know if this is a special programme because of recent events or was this extra programme scheduled anyway.

It was like the last item on CBS Evening News (Sky News rebroadcast).
The entertainment news programs (Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Extra) ran with the story hard. CNN, NBC, MSNBC & ABC all ran with the story extensively this morning.
According to CourtTV's Diane Dimond, reporting on CNN's American Morning, when Santa Barbara County police went to Jackson's ranch yesterday, not only did they have a search warrant for the premesis, but they also had an arrest warrant for Michael Jackson himself. Jackson was (at least at that point) in Las Vegas, recording a music video for his next "greatest hits" album, which was released this week. The video is supposed to be shown on his CBS special, scheduled for November 26th. (From what I understand, VH1 is supposed to get the special for rebroadcast immediately after that, as it's a sister company to CBS)

The NBC Nightly News didn't mention Jackson at all. Extraordinary.

The news has arrived that an arrest warrant on charges relating to multiple offenses under California Penal Code Section 288a has been issued against Michael Jackson. Mr Jackson is said to be making plans to surrender himself to law enforcement authorities.
And in other news, an official report reveals that overgrown trees caused the loss of electric power to 55 million subscribers. Akron, OH based FirstEnergy

was found to have violated four voluntary standards set down by NERC, the North American Electric Reliability Council.

The principle cause of the power failure which led to business losses of up to USD 55 million, was First Energy's failure to trim trees next to power transmission lines.

eh? when you consider how similar events in 1993 just about wrecked his musical career, why on earth would he consider using something like this as a publicity stunt? if you want to promote your new record, getting arrested for kiddy fiddling is probably the last thing you'd want to happen.

Well I do seriously doubt all of this in terms of that I think it could be publicity stunt for a forthcoming video of his for next year and probably in this video will have how the media handled Michael over these allegations.

Sneddon Makes Apology
Santa Barbara District Attorney Tom Sneddon responded to criticism regarding his demeanor last week while giving a news conference detailing the arrest warrant for Michael Jackson. Sneddon apologized Tuesday for some of the comments made. "There were certain instances where I used humor to deflect questions, and I guess some reporters took offense," he said.
Referring to a specific comment welcoming the media and suggesting it would put money into the struggling California economy. "I think the criticism was valid, I think that to some extent the comment was inappropriate," he said. "I feel bad about it because I think I should´ve known better. I feel bad about it because somebody would assume that I´m making light of a thing where I know there´s a serious crime, and that there are victims that have been hurt and family."
Sneddon also apologized for a November 20 interview with Court TV´s Diane Dimond in which he referred to Jackson as "a guy everybody calls ´Jacko Wacko." "In my interview with Diane Dimond, I made reference to Mr. Jackson in some terms that are slang or jargon terms," he said. "I knew as soon as I said it, it was inappropriate, it was unprofessional and I was immediately sorry for it."
"My wife, when she saw the interview, chided me on it, and in all candor I´d have to say that if my Mom was still alive she would take me to task for not being a good person, and I do feel badly for making that remark."
Sneddon´s defense of the allegations that he was merely targeting the pop star to advance his career. "I got more important things going on in my life than to listen to a song by a guy everybody calls ´Jacko Wacko,´" Sneddon told Dimond. "I have my life and I do my job, and anybody who thinks I´ve spent 10 years sitting here waiting to read [lyrics] from Michael Jackson just has not got a clue. Or anybody who thinks that I´m doing this for political reasons is totally poppycock because I´m not running for reelection. I´m retiring in three years. And I´ve been successful. I have a good career. I´m not worried about getting another notch on my belt."
Sneddon went on to say, "The idea that I would subject myself to what I knew was coming, or the sheriff would subject himself, or that anybody in my office, to this avalanche of scrutiny that we all knew was coming because we saw it in ´93 and ´94, should tell people something about why we were willing to go forward," he said. "It´s our job, it´s simply that."

This is Michael Jackson we are talking about. He needs all the publicity he can get at the mo. I know it's the not the best tactic but then it will be how he would want to portray it in the video. If there was such a thing. Even George Michael did his own take on his famous toilet saga. But anyhow this is a TV Forum believe it or not

whatt do you expect him to have in his next video, 25 naked 12 year olds surrounding him??
he'd be a bigger fool than i imagined if he even made the slightest reference to it. and i think the comparisons between the two have to end there.
i'll say it again, no way on earth is this some publicity stunt. it totally ruined his career 10 years earlier. i can think of a thousand other things that he could do to promote his album better.
