Bringing back News at Ten (again) would be an even bigger mistake than last time - if anything the 10.30pm bulletin needs moving back to 11pm - certainly the best slot (and virtually the highest rated!) since the original News at Ten was axed in 1999!
Where's your source for that? I'm not sure that the Nightly News at 11pm was watched more than the current news at 10.30pm. And the broadcasting landscape has changed immeasureably since 1999 (not all for the better, of course). Comparing viewing figures for the 'old' News at Ten with now is a bit apples and pears.
I'd like to see the News made much more important again on ITV1, and integral. An idea:
12.00 Lunchtime News (30 mins)
5.30 Regional News
7.00 Evening News -- Flagship bulletin
11.00 Late News -- More serious and analytical, 'Newsnight'-esque bulletin.
This would open up 7.30-11pm for programming and the six o'clock window. Six o'clock a decent chatshow, half seven the soaps, 8 o'clock some decent factual or current affairs, 9pm a cracking drama, ten o'clock a documentary and then the News at 11.
ITV could therefore justify pushing the News to 11pm by the Evening News being moved to 7 o'clock (further into primetime), and therefore free up a full 10pm slot. This would also mean a higher chance of uninterrupted films at 9pm
The news would return to being on the hour, and start ON TIME every time. I think this would be a better idea for ITV if they want to take News seriously, whilst still keeping ad revenue in consideration.
and in the process ruin half the schedule and kill off the regions. Why you want to 'open up 6pm' I don't know. It's set in stone in this country that 6pm is news time
I think people are getting carried away with these ideas now and turning into those mock schedules 'what I'd do is...' type threads
Today's announcement is much more than just moving around the ITV1 schedule

Ok, not a bad idea but the regional news is too early and emmerdale AND coronation street couldnt both air in a 1/2 hour slot.

Don't you dare patronise me. Of course Grade has to look at other fundamental issues but the schedules are a fundamental issue as well. Can't see how what I suggested would "ruin half the schedule" or "kill off the regions" myself.
Take this quick schedule I just thought up for Monday nights. It would obviously not be as easy as this, as programmes would need to in some cases change length and timeslot etc, and this wouldn't come without some problems but Grade has made it clear he will sort out the channel.
10.30 This Morning
12.00 ITV News
12.30 Loose Women
1.15 Dickinson's Real Deal
2.00 Monday Cooks
3.00 CITV
5.30 Local News & Weather
6.00 The Richard Hammond Show
7.00 ITV News & Weather
7.30 Coronation Street
8.00 Extinct
8.30 Soapstar Superstar
10.00 Doc Martin
11.00 ITV News & Weather
You can lick ITV arse as much as you want Andrew (it hasn't stopped you for the past couple of years despite it being in decline and a minor crisis) but most people know that ITV's problems are deep rooted in its programming, schedules and general image. Grade must address all of these through change, schedules included.

Now get off you high horse.
For a start people aren't home from work at 5.30pm to watch regional news, therefore it will be killed off and everyone will watch the BBC's
Secondly, why would anyone want to watch a chat show at 6pm, when they've probably spent the last hour watching Paul O'Grady
News at 7 is far too late, it would probably be a gift to The One Show
You seem to have reduced Emmerdale. Grade may make changes but anyone who thinks he will throw away 8 million viewers everynight is not being realistic
Lastly, showing a mainstream drama at 10pm is not going to work either
It's nothing to do with licking anybodys arse. You're ideas are about as practical as moving The Premiership to 7pm, and Emmerdale to 10pm. Grade would be ousted by the shareholders before his 1st anniversary
Plus, I'm quite bored of every news story on this forum being an excuse for a mock schedule.

The latter has already been done, last year during the World Cup. Ahem.
Anyway I'd like people to stop moaning about mock schedules it does my head in, they aren't doing any harm.
PLUS Andrew, you say people wouldn't watch the regional news at 5.30 - well I disagree. It would attract a different audience, perhaps people who are busy from 6 onwards be it because they are cooking or out or whatever.
ITV'd do good to stop competing with BBC One and thinking "um, oh yes well the BBC have their regional news at 6.30pm so let's make sure we can get some of those viewers watching our bulletin so let's do it at 6pm, yes that sounds good, now what else are BBC One doing?"
If they focussed on making ITV1 good, and not the other channels, it'd all fall into place.
It will be interesting to see what Grade does with ITV. One man cannot single handly turn round ITV though. With him as head, and people working beneath him as a team will turn this around.
As for programming, ITV seem to do well with one of dramas. Why not try and turn them into 6-part series? The 6pm should stay with news, 7pm with Soaps. and 8pm - 10.30pm Drama, Comedy, Film. Similar to what it's like now, but different if you get what i mean.

To be honest it's probably from an article I read before the 10.30pm started - just one of those things I saw and remembered!
Someone mentioned the news channel - highly unlikely, but having it to return to replace ITV Play would be welcome by most (and as I've said elsewhere, I don't think the actual ITV Play channei is as profitable as people think - ITV Play's profits are hugely distorted by the revenue from the ITV1 overnight slots!).

I think it might have been the case that news at 11 got a better audience share than the 10.30 does now - but of course a smaller number of viewers in absolute terms.
