A minor point, but your signature doesn't make much sense. Why have 'am' and 'pm' when your times are in the 24 hour system?

Yup thanks for pointing that out "Antz". I've been meaning to change it!

- Lunchtime News at 12:30pm and Late News back to 22:00pm
- Cut soaps to 4 episodes during week - Sun, Mon, Tue & Thu. (7pm-8pm).
- Merge ITV4 and M&M to a 24 hour mens channel.
- ITV Play 7pm until 7am and CITV Channel 7am until 7pm. No ITV Play during the night on ITV1+2.
- Have continual dramas e.g 8 week runs.
- The Bill would just be on Tuesdays at 8pm.
and more of my ideas soon!

Basically same idea but....

Soaps:-
Emmerdale - Mon, Tue, Thur & Fri @7pm
Coronation Street - Mon, Wed & Fri @ 730pm
The Bill - Wed @ 8pm

no soaps to be shown on Tuesdays after 730pm due to Champions League commitments and no soaps to be shown on primtime during Saturdays and Sunday (unless its Christmas Day)

With regards to ITV Play/CiTV:-
CiTV - 6am to 7pm
Play - 7pm to 6am

ITV made the best comedy of the year - The Royle Family.

Disagree slightly: Granada may have MADE it, but the whole ETHOS of the Royle Family comes from Caroline Aherne, Craig Cash, Ricky Tomlinson et. al..., plus the input "Early Doors" man Phil Mealey had on this year's special, and it is still seen as a BBC programme because that is the network it aired on. It's like saying ITV can claim credit for University Challenge. So ITV can only claim a negligible slice of the Royle Family credit - and that's before the arguments start as to whether the Queen of Sheba was even any good...

Granada is the name ITV uses for it programmes on other channels, therefore they ARE ITV productions.

ITV for BBC include..

The Mrs Merton Show (would be nowadays as it was originally a Granada programme and it was actually first shown on Granada TV as a regional programme)
The Royle Family
What The Papers Say
University Challenge
The Street

If anything ITV do hold the rights to these shows it is only BBC that has paid ITV to show them on the BBC. Even the DVDs are now being released by ITV (just like the videos were released by Granada)

same goes for C4's Countdown and Sky One's Fear Factor UK and Brainiac:Science Abuse

If i was Michael Grade...

- Local news at 9.25am, with Jeremy Kyle starting at 9.30am.
- Axe the Luncthime news, and have a 30minute local news programme which would also show national/international news stories from ITN reporters.
- CITV would be extended to 5.30pm, and at 5.30 a music show - something like TRL.
- Emmerdale would only air Mon - Fri, Coronation St would stay the same as now.

Sunday
6.30pm Local News
6.45pm ITV Weekend News
7.00pm Surprise Surprise (something light hearted)
8.00pm Coronation St
8.30pm Heartbeat
9.30pm Drama

Introduce the ITV News At Nine, which means that 9.30pm onwards would be free for movies, feature length shows/dramas. ie:
Monday
8.30pm Coronation St
9.00pm ITV News at Nine (feat local news)
9.30pm I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!
10.45pm Late Show with...

Give powers to regionals to have news updates during commercials, if something big is breaking/happening in the region.

Nah, that would mean easy loss to the competition at 9pm with few staying on to the show at 9.30 - can't see the business sense there.

I agree with what many have said here. This is a general consensus, with a few added ideas:

- Move Lunchtime News back to 1230.
- Merge M&M and ITV4 into 24-hour channel
- Timeshift ITV Play and CiTV, with CiTV from 0700-1900 and ITV Play from 1900-0600
- Move the Late News to 2200 and have films/dramas/whatnot etc starting at 2230.
- Invest in more lengthy series, quality hour-long drama at 9.
- Dabble with other genres: comedy for one. ITV CAN do it, they just need to have a good team and do it right. Perhaps commission a new music show for broadcast daily at 1700, with user-selected videos. (£££)
- Cut back soaps. Eradicate them from Sunday and only feature them on the Weekends over Christmas. Get rid of Corrie at 2030 on Monday and Emmerdale on Wednesday. Cut the Bill on Wednesday.

In terms of pres:

- Overhaul the news set, bring it back to basics and more upmarket, with mature presentation and no more tabloid headlines.
- Tweak ITV1-4 to diversify them a little more, and definitely rethink ITV1's idents. They are improved now but still need to be more bold and punchy, with varying soundtracks and memorable scenes, with more post-production. Sort out the logos - is it black or white? Maybe capitalise the 'ITV' portion:

I'd like no moaning of "this should be in the mocks forum" because if I posted it there, some would say "this isn't a mock" - so there you have it. It gives you an idea, whether or not it is better than the lowercase ITV, what uppercase would look like.

I'd have

2:30pm- CiTV with a much higher budget with:

2:30- Little CiTV
4:00- 'Big' CITV
5:30pm- What used to be the 5 O'Clock show
6:15pm- Regional News (with national bulletins)
7:00pm- Corrie (Mon, Wed, Fri) Emmerdale (Tues, Thurs, Sun)
7:30pm- Regional Program
8:00pm- Drama/Current Affairs
9:00pm- Drama/Reality
10:00pm- News (with regional bulletins)
11:00pm- Late night film

I'd scrap ITV Play for 'Little CITV' and put Men and Motors back in its place from the ITV4 bandwidth (even though M&M only 12 hours)

Far too much time given to children's programming, in even my own opinion. I agree that children's programming should be extended and givene a higher bidget than now but 3 hours worth during an afternoon - it would never work. My Childrens schedule would to...

1. Bring back to the very basics - Rename it back to "Watch It!" to seperate it from CiTV Channel and give the ITV1 slot its own identity but still refer to the CiTV Channel and have a "Broomcupboard" studio with presenter (it worked well int he past for both ITV and BBC and works weel for five's Milkshake.

2. Weekday schedule should be...
1600 Pre-school Series'
1620 Birthday Greetings
f/b Young Children's Animation
1635 Animation (most imported except for 1 day a week which needs to be home-grown e.g. Dangermouse, Count Duckula etc - only examples btw!)
1700 M, F - British Factual Series (e.g. Art Attack, The Big Bang, How2..)
1700 Tu, Th - British Gameshows (Jungle Run, New Knightmare, Fun House...)
1700 W - British Comedy Series (e.g. My Parents Are Aliens, The New Worst Witch, Harry Hill....)
1730 M, F - British Drama Series (e.g. Children's Ward, Runaway Bay...)
1730 Tu, Th - British Magazine Series' (e.g. Magpie, Splash, Freetime...)
1730 W - British Factual Series' (e.g. Fly-on-the-wall series, Current Affairs, Documentary style series'...)

3. Sunday's should be extended as follow as such...
0925 Young Children's Animations
0940 Young Children's Series' (e.g. Sooty, Bernards Watch, Zzzap!)
1005 Classic British Animation
1030 British Entertainment Series (e.g. The Top Ten Of..., The Playlist...)
1100 Movies, Games and Videos
1130 Classic British Drama Series (e.g. Black Beauty, Dick Turpin...)
1200 Foreign Comedies (to 1230)

4. Bring back the Saturday Morning Entertainment/Magazine Show
0925 to 1130 Magazine (mixture of Motormouth, Bedrock, The Disney Club and SMTV Live) includes 1 animation series and foreign comedy/drama (30 mins) series
1130 to 1230 The Chart Show (cheaper to make than CD:UK!)

with the rest of the ideas of the consensus that I totally uphold the ideas (esp merger og M&M & ITV4 and the timeshifting channels of CiTV & Play

OK, well what if ...

2:30pm- CiTV with a much higher budget with:

2:30- Little CiTV (Most of the target audience are pre-schoolers anyway so they could still catch this)
3:15- 'Big' CITV
4:30pm- Chat Show (alternating between Sharon Osbourne, Brian Conley and Lorraine Kelly)
5:30: Classic Gameshow (New series' of Catchphrase, Strike it Lucky, My Kind of Music, Wheel of Fortune etc, Price is Right AXED)
Also, here would be the reality spin off shows such as Dancing on Ice Extra, Celebrity Exclusive etc
6:15pm- Regional News (with national bulletins)
7:00pm- Corrie (Mon, Wed, Fri) Emmerdale (Tues, Thurs, Sun)
7:30pm- Regional Program
8:00pm- Drama/Current Affairs
9:00pm- Drama/Reality
10:00pm- News (with regional bulletins)
10:30pm- Late night film

As for weekend mornings, I would do the following (negotiations from GMTV needed)

Saturday

6am: Wakey Wakey
7am: Toonattik
8:55am: Saturday Morning Show *Using a Disney cartoon between 9 and 9:25)
10:45am: Music Show (TOTP Reloaded style)
11:30am: Saturday Cooks! Live
12:30pm: Lunchtime News

Sunday:

6am: Wakey Wakey
7:30am: Toonattik
10:00am: Fully Booked style magazine
10:45am: The Championship
11:30am: The Sunday Edition

My reasonings for an 8:55 start would be because it is 5 minutes ahead of CBBC so would be easier to grip an audience. The overlap of GMTV and ITV is just because GMTV Kids is now under the CITV brand so I see there is no reason why Toonattik should end at 9:25 and 'real' CITV start at 9:25.

Also, with Saturday Cooks! Live, I think that it would be something for parents to watch after the kids shows have ended. This way, ITV get to keep their Saturday morning rivalry and their beloved cooking show.

They should do advertisments for more toys and also do special christmas promotions for toys which children could buy. Do more promotions for shows coming up e.g My Parents are Aliens. Do more links for CITV channel etc.
