Michael Fish will present his last forcast tonight after 30 yrs.
On the lunchtime news they have just done a montage of him doing the weather over the last 30yrs including the famous gaff in 87 about not forcasting the hurricane.

His last forecast will be after tonight's Ten o' clock News. He did the last Breakfast weather forecast this morning too just before 9am. I think this has been mentioned in another thread somewhere, but I can't see any harm in a thread devoted entirely to this subject!

My Dad for one is pleased at this news! He's never liked him - particularly after '87! He said "maybe the weather will get better now he's retiring!" lol!

Not a fan of the BBC Weather team myself (too long - and spend too much time telling us what the weather was ilke earlier - but on the other hand the ITV bulletins are too short!).

When do the new graphics make their debut?

Maybe the departing of Michael Fish - means new future for BBC Weather?

Interesting... Michael Fish's retiring wasn't much like that of Spotlight legendary weatherman Craig Rich - Craig got a present on air - Michael didn't! But of course they both got clips of their best bits shown on their last day... even though Craig wasn't officially retiring as he still does the weather when David (Braine) is away, but it's always nice to see him.

I'm quite surprised actually at how much of Craig we still get. He usually seems to put in at least one appearance a month, and he's done a whole week's stretch on two occasions since retiring (including doing the first weather forecast from the new set). The only sad thing about it is that his 'real' retirement (i.e. when he'll never appear again) probably won't be marked at all.

I'm sorry to see Michael go as he was the only one of what I call "the originals" still remaining. With Bill Giles and Ian McCaskill already gone, there's no-one left.

The new generation of weathermen seem to lack any sort of character or charisma that made the veterans stand out. OK, so the growth of the BBC weather department (and the number of channels) has necessitated more forecasters - but the more there are, the less of a rapport they can build with the viewer especially when flitting from channel to channel. Spotlight will often take a forecast from some anonymous News 24 forecaster, especially at breakfast time.

Maybe there should be a seperate weather team for BBC1 and BBC2 only?

Wouldn't that be a squanderous waste of money? The ability to impart weather information with an inoffensive face and voice will do at 8am, thank you.

I gather David pops into the new main Met Office in Exeter pretty regularly to do "projects" and that, plus holidays, is when we get Craig.

I'll try to keep a count this month, as Craig's already done last Monday (4th).

Who is the longest serving BBC Weatherman now?

Is it Rob McElwee?

My mate in France has phoned in saying we're getting a freak blizzard tonight... trust me when I say it's totally false, it's not going to happen.

Very Happy

Fair play to the guy, that was one bloody big gaffe!
