I was surfing through the channels on the Wellington Video Wall, which although is showing mostly test cards as I spilt an entire can of panda shany on the control box, screen 5 was showing a programme which described the process of feltching and on screen 6 there was a news report on an apparent comeback attempt by Barrymore.
Personally, I never thought this bloke was funny. In fact, he embarrassed himself unutterably on almost television appearance. Jumping around and rolling on the floor like some sectioned madman just isn’t classed as comedy by myself, my 14 year old pregnant girlfriend or indeed any of my 17 afghan slaves.
If he does appear on any UK tv channels, I will boycott them, and write to them demanding the removal of his programmes. Many felt that he lied at the inquest of Stuart Lubbock – claming he couldn’t swim when those close to him said he could – indeed he even had a swimming pool in his garden.
Until this doubt is removed, I don’t think he should ever be allowed back on television.
To be honest I would have to agree with you, I just don't like him at all, he just doesn't make me laugh or anything, and this is before and after the swimming pool incident, he wasn't bad on Strike It Lucky/Rich, but otherwise I wouldn't want to see him back on ITV and I don't really feel sorry for him after all the bad press he has got. I don't hate him or anything, it was someone who I'd never really watch on the TV.
Now for someone in the same situation such as John Leslie, I do feel sorry for and I would welcome his return on to TV anyday, as he is a good presenter, he wasn't annoying and unfortunately was given a very bad time by the press when it was proved that he had done nothing wrong, to be honest I wouldn't mind seeing Wheel Of Fortune back on.
I don't think the events surrounding Michael Barrymore have changed many people's opinions of him. Those who hated him before still hate him, and those who liked him before still like him.

Was it proved that he had done nothing wrong? I thought that the case collapsed?
Anyway, he lost his job due to the way he treated Granada during the eye of the storm. They asked him to contact them about everything which was going on, and he didn't get back to them. That's what Granada says anyway.
I am very surprised that Lord Wellington has not suggested the appropriate vehicle for the rehabilitation of victims of the legal process.
Is it not time that C4 commissioned Endemol to produce an
"I'm a celebrity villain, get me out of here"
featuring such notable celebrities as Barrymore, Lesley, and Lord Archer?
It is only a pity that another celebrity villain, Lord Lucan, is apparently being reported as having died in India during the 1990s, although that could just be a celebrity stunt.
I've always liked Michael, think he's a funny man. Can see him in the archive episodes of Strike it Rich/Lucky that are shown every so often on Challenge. Can tell he loved it. Pity none of his other work seems to have come round on satellite TV though for whatever reason.
Shame really what happened to him. I think he should be able to return to TV at some point, although I doubt it'd be in the next two years or so.
He really did get on my nerves, so I'd say it's time for Mr. Barrymore to lie low. Yes, it's a shame what happened to him but he got on a lot of people's nerves. I tihnk though that the withheld series of Kids Say The Funniest Things should go out though - if only for the kids' sake.
I think naughty old Homophobia is raising it's head when it comes to Barrymore, especially where the tabloids are concerned. If this happened to a straight cleb, I am sure the reaction would be more muted.

The irony is just astonishing Samej, or whatever your name isn't.
Why wont you take your own advice and lie low yourself?
Further to Woody's comment: I dont think this has anything to do with homophobia. If they'd found a girl lying in his pool wouldnt that have been pounced on in the same way? After all of his other "antics" I'm afraid this time he was given enough rope to hang himself. I fail to see how (after only 2 1/2 years) he reckons that enough time has passed and that he can start afresh.
The man is an embarrassment to watch. Barrymore has always beleived that "entertaining" is simply a matter of throwing yourself around on stage. His material is awful. He should never come back.
Ive always liked Barrymore, and I dont know why. I didnt like that programme he did where he was a game show host and it followed hime backstage, i think it was a drama, was it called bob something?
Ive always enjoyed his live stuff where its just general entertainment, mainly because he didnt care about schedules and was generally mad. I really miss his entertainment on TV. I think itv were wrong to drop him the way they did.
If something happened anywhere else it would have been classed as an accident, but because it was his house he was to blame!
I understand itv's reason for dropping john leslie as they asked him to tell them what was going on and he didnt, it was right for them to drop him for this reason.
