Do you think Michael would have continued to get golden handcuff deals with ITV had the whole Lubbock incident not happened? What shows would he have presented for them? Could you see him as the host of upcoming shows they had planned like I'm A Celeb or BGT? (Actually he would have possibly suited BGT given his variety background). Would his act have evolved in line with the way television went in the 00's and 10's, would he even still have been such a presence now or would he have bowed out or resigned to acting roles/documentaries or the likes instead?

No, I think his act would have become dated and he would have fallen out of favour as we headed into an era of serious moody quizzes and big budget reality and talent shows.

It would have been the same as how Blind Date, Stars in their Eyes and other 90s stalwarts dropped in the ratings and suddenly looked quite old fashioned.

Deal or No deal has to be the best case as everything was radom.

Apart from a brief spell when they changed the methods and the same numbers ended up in the same boxes...

Your suspicions are what exactly?

Mr Barrymore engaged in a high risk lifestyle of alcohol and drugs, this is well documented, this combined with the (rightly or wrongly) reported inconsistencies in accounts of the Stuart Lubbock incident have always tainted him - and rendered him unsuitable for light family entertainment - even now, in this thread, nearly 20 years later, whenever anybody mentions Michael Barrymore, everyone remembers the guy who drowned in his pool and obtained injuries in circumstances which have never been satisfactorily explained.

There are certain types of misdemeanour (in this case a drug filled party which ended in tragedy) celebrities of a certain stature can recover from, perhaps if that had happened 10 years earlier at the height of his fame, his career may have recovered, but with hindsight we can see that his career was already on a downward curve, almost certainly due to issues in his private life and erratic behavior.

It remains to be seen if Mr Mcpartlin's career will ever pick up where it left off,.... If I was a betting man, I'd say he's finished.

Thank goodness the rest of the entertainment industry is alcohol and drug free.

Nobody for a moment is saying that it is, but when family friendly Saturday teatime entertainers are caught or admit to using drugs or having a drug/alcohol problems they very rarely emerge unscathed, not saying it always ruins their career, but it usually changes it... Chuck a sex scandal into the mix and then it starts doing some real damage....

I think you need to look at the wider picture with Barrymore. If Richard Bacon, who was sacked from kids TV after a drugs scandal, can get a job in family friendly breakfast telly then I don't think you can blame the demise of his career on that alone.

Pretty sure he'd be just as shunned if a woman had drowned in his pool in unexplained circumstances.

Equating that to Richard Bacon managing to get a job on the Big Breakfast - which I wouldn't describe as family-friendly, per se, more anarchic and risqué - doesn't really work, to me.

Disgraceful to even feel I've got to say it in this day and age but there's definitely a homophobic undercurrent in part to Barrymore being shunned I believe.

Then how come Graham Norton, Rylan Clark-Neal, Sue Perkins, Alan Carr, Gok Wan, Stephen Fry, Dr Christian, Derren Brown, Claire Balding, Jame Hill, Nick Grimshaw, Paul O'Grady, Anna Richardson, Craig Revel-Horwood, Evan Davis, Matt Lucas, Scott Mills, and Sandi Toksvig still get work?

Never knew about half these people. But again whats sexuality got to do with getting a job? I like most of those people on the list. I like Barrymore, i also like few others who had doggy past.

Now that's what I call a scandal.
