When was MERIDIAN NEWS last relaunched? Is the show good?

Why is it that practically every post you have made either asks a question or is part of your own poll?

I can't really see the point of starting up a topic like this if there isn't a reason for it.

One of your topics was: Views on THE BIGGEST GAME IN TOWN presented by Steve Le Fevre. That was it!

I am sorry if you wonder why. I do not know a lot about other regions, and I am curious, like most of us are. I haven't seen Meridian for over a year and no one has mentioned a change. It seems like a long time for a set to remain.

Well, its not really a long time for a set. I'm sure someone else can think of plenty of good examples, but when did the BBC domestic set change? A couple of years ago now. We've also seen essentially the same studio from London Tonight since 1993.

I think Meridian News is quite a nice programme, although it did take a while to get used to the rather wacky desk when it was first introduced

Meridian Tonight/News is still the same. The Blue backdrop with Fred and Debbie still sitting in the red and yellow hot tub!

Meridian Tonight's look seems incredibly dated (especially the titles) and badly needs a new look.

The news is horrific - i live in North Kent (Rochester), and previously only received Carlton, and how I miss it. ITV Digital cam round to put a new aerail on the roof, and it now picks up Meridian only. they've even got Glenn Thompsett (aka TV Travel Shop frontman) reading the news in GMTV.

The weather bulletins are just atrocious: the promotions for Seafrance are actaully longer than the actual bulletin, which is a screen with words on it (no maps etc.) (with guess what, a big Seafrance logo) in a dated font. Meridian need to get their act together - I think I can safely say they are the worst ITV region in the country.

In Meridian's annual report (from April 2001) it says there are plans to relaunch Meridian Tonight with a new set and a new look later this year. So possibly.

And the current desk is brilliant!

The set is horrible!! How I wish the YTV graphics team would get down here and give us some proper weather bulletins. The one last night for example, has two people laughing, then the Sea France caption which zooms back. A summary flys in from the left and the Meridian logo fades up bottom right. It is absolutely terrible.

Cheers, Asa

Maybe the graphics designers kids were let loose on Powerpoint, and the designer turned around and said 'Mmmm, that's not bad - must use that at work!'

Well, sorry to say it, I actually enjoy watching Meridian. Sorry to anyone who is offended by that comment

Talking about Meridian Weather bulletins... can somebody help me! For a VERY short time during the mid-ninetees, Meridian Weather had no sponsor. The ordinary weather titles were great - I used to try to get out of school early to see them! Unfortunatly, that era was very short lived... and I never saw the titles again. Does anyone have them? I'd be sooooo greatful. All I remember is that there was a weather vane and possibly a sundial in the titles.

Thanks!
