God the papers & news bulletings talked a load of tripe over the proposed strike action by Royal Mail staff.
We were told time and time again that there would be overwhelming support for strike action.

I'd like to know where they got this information from!
It seemed to me that the news (ITN in particular) were taking alot for granted, and put no reseach into this.

And your detailed background knowledge, leading you to this interesting opinion is exactly what?

I work at a Mail Center, and I know for a fact that not many really believed there were a case for a strike... being the opposite to what several news bulletings would have us believe.

I am merely pointing out that the media put little to no research into the matter. [A tabloid newspaper also published inaccurate information with regards to overtime pay!]

Anyway, I guess they just tried to hype it up because 'Royal Mail to loose £20 mil a day in strike action' makes a better story than 'Union wants strike, workers don't end of story'!

It's just another example of media tripe. Rolling Eyes

I don't know what you are on about, the strike was narrowly averted by a very narrow margin of 1% there was very nearly a strike. It's not as if it was overwhelmingly rejected, 46,931members were still in favour of action.
