Bbc two new idents are decent but the line up is bonkers? I would suggest bbc overhaul its channels.
Bbc one programmes are revised, while bbc two and four are merged with newsnight and bbc world news stays on the new channel. Eggsheads stay in the same slot. With new bbc three 9pm to 1am cover comedy from two, three and four and other doc that don't fit?
Is that a good idea or bad idea? Do you think there is a better way?
“BBC2 prides itself as a channel that appeals to a broad adult audience, offering a multiplicity of distinctive comedy, drama and arts programming. However, according to a Mr 623058 from the land of the brave Alba, it’s current line-up of programmes is:
Had your master plan - which I have to say is quite impressive in the cuts and reduction it would lead to, yet, you make no real back connection to financial savings it would make - had been carried out...
..You would be the first to post on here, that this 'Tony Hall Overhall' plan would lead to less idents and presentation, and what the hell were the BBC thinking?
It's a fair point that sorting out the branding counts for very little if the programmes are poor. And much of BBC Two's daytime schedule could be described in that way.
It's also a reasonable point that other BBC networks have come along and taken the programming that BBC Two used to be defined by. The high brow stuff and more niche documentaries have gone to BBC Four, less mainstream comedy to BBC Three, kids stuff to CBBC and Cbeebies. It really is hard to describe what BBC Two does these days.

It's fair to say what's left of Three and Four have diluted down Two's remit.
Infact, I'd go as far to say you could remove Four as well and migrate the more popular stuff - the Scandinavian dramas, the documentaries etc - to Two. The really niche stuff could go online.
You could also bring the more mainstream stuff from what's left of Three over to Two.
Basically, he's got a point here: do we need BBC Four when BBC Two is struggling to fill a schedule?

Why do you believe there would be a reductions? why do you beleive there should be plenty of live duplications of channel content?

Thank you, you can pin BBC two down to around 4 hours of new content if were lucky each day.
As Britain's second channel do we really believe this is the best use for it?

Looking at BBC Four schedules there is barely 4 hours of new content a week so it doesn't really justify an entire service. But like all multi-channels they are there to increase audience share.
When was daytime on BBC Two never not filler? The channel has never really kicked in before 6pm. As for primetime, personally I think it's much stronger than it was 10 years ago.

I was thinking similarly. From the late 90s/early 00s i remember that school programmes still filled the mornings with programmes like working lunch and politics appearing. Afternoons were repeats and then daytime game shows. Though of course even the gameshows migrated to BBC One when CBBC went to their channel only.

I remember around same period, all brand new content going out between 3-6pm and then it was 90mins for teenagers with the Simpsons, or Thunderbirds and of course Fresh prince.

Yet there shut BBC3 surly you would want to have more presence for younger demographics? is the plan to move BBC4 to online only aswell?
The problem with BBC2 daytime is solved perfectly by the following Barry Took (not)
(at 43secs).. return to the Test Card.

BBC does some great things but you have to ask is it worth while dup programmes with the news channel? is there any point still having newsnight on bbc2? whats the point in increase audience share. if the long term plans to move more content to online?
No one is saying BBC2/3/4 programmes are bad, but I would rather had a stronger BBC2. People still forget BBC4 is around etc
