"Maybe the best thing Michael Grade could do to ensure the future success of ITV would be to buy Channel 4!"

In 'Lorraine Heggessey on Broadcasting' in 'The Independent'.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no! Perhaps c4 television should buy ITV plc, that would be interesting.

I think the best thing to ensure the future success of ITV plc, and the ITV Network generally, and the viewer, would be to split up ITV Plc, that way, the companies would be forced to take risks, they'd compete, they'd end up being mroe competitive, innovative programmes, innovative branding, innovative techniques on the stations, and make more money, better programmes, and better entertaiment!

"ITV is like M&S: a cherished brand that has the power to recover"

I kind of agree. She says both are brands, with a public affecftion, and expectations. I think that part of the Independent Television brand is the regionality, and the regional competition. This U.S.P. has been entirely down-played.

You'd think a paper of the status of The Independent would at least find someone who knew something about broadcasting!
