Arsenal v Stoke was a far more attractive tie than Yeading v Newcastle today.

Erm no it wasn't. One of the FA Cup's USPs is the potential for a shock result and that was more likely to come at the Yeading game.

And can you imagine the outrage if the BBC put a live game on its interactive service?

The BBC have put a live game on it's interactive service before, it was a match that was shown on BBC One Scotland while the rest of the england was watching grandstand, I belive that it was in the scotish cup.

I'm certain the BBC have done it before during European/World Cup Championships, when BBC1 or BBC2 was unavailable, they showed a match on BBCi, but it was a non-crucial one.

They certainly did during the last World Cup in Japan, and the Euro Championship in Portugal.

Distinctly remember them going for the game where Italy got knocked out by the 2-all Nordic draw - Italy on BBC1, Denmark v Norway on BBCi.

Well said, Luke. In the cup you always have to go for the underdog.

As it happens Arsenal v Stoke wasn't even live in Europe, but in Asia it was covered live and a feed available to a few people with motorised setup.

So with replays it's four matches a round instead of two.

Seriously though I agree the BBC should get a live replay match - but I stand by my comments on the three matches over a weekend. Putting one match (not the main match!) on digital TV would mean two matches on BBC1 - the same as in the last three years - and millions more would be able to watch it than if on Sky Sports.

What I do object is the consequences of the BBC gaining the Premiership rights, further FA Cup games and more England friendlies. Not only has BBC Wales lost all it's rights to the Welsh football team (they switch to Sky, they start losing!), highlights of World Cup qualifiers of all home nations have all been lost. I can't remember an England game, never mind a Wales game, not having at least highlights on terrestrial TV.

You can't really blame the BBC for losing the rights to the Welsh games, though. They offered more than last time, but the Welsh FA took the Murdoch dollar.

If you wanted to see the FA Cup games you should find a friend in the BBC. I managed to enjoy a feed to West Ham v Norwich .... Smile

(also, nobody has spotted BBC West and West Midlands is doing an opt from Grandstand in two weeks' time .... Linkage here ........ )

Lol - no. The MoTD Prem feeds are regularly around the skies if you know where to look.

Will the pitch have to be black to match?
